Job Details:
- Full-time position
- Starting at $25/hr, depending on experience
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols and work instructions
- Lay out, position, align and assemble structural steel, plates and custom metal components according to specifications
- Use hand and power tools, including grinders, saws, drills and torches, to prepare and adjust components
- Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures, squares, levels, calipers and micrometers
- Tack weld components to maintain proper alignment and minimize distortion when qualified
- Prepare joints for welding through cleaning, beveling, grinding and proper fit-up
- Collaborate with welders, supervisors and quality personnel to ensure assemblies meet quality standards
- Perform visual inspections and identify any deviations from specifications
- Assist with repairs, rework and continuous improvement initiatives
- Minimum 2 years of fabrication fitting or welding experience preferred
- Experience working in a heavy manufacturing or metal fabrication environment
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and welding symbols
- Knowledge of fabrication methods, joint preparation and weld distortion control
- Experience working with structural steel, pressure components or custom metal fabrications is an asset
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, hand tools and power tools
- Strong shop math skills and ability to perform measurement conversions
- Forklift and overhead crane experience is an asset
- Trade certification in metal fabrication or a related field is an asset
- High school diploma or equivalent required
