Job Overview
Arepa Foreva is a new independent Venezuelan arepa restaurant near the University of Ottawa. We are looking for a friendly, dependable and observant cashier to provide excellent customer service and contribute to a respectful, organized and supportive team.
Schedule
- Usually five shifts per week
- Full-time day shift: Approximately 30–36 hours per week
- Full-time evening shift: Approximately 30–34 hours per week
- Flexible part-time shift: Approximately 12–24 hours per week, including day, evening and weekend shifts
- Applicants may indicate their preferred shift when applying.
- Saturday availability is required.
- Sunday availability may be required in the future.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers, answer menu questions and take orders accurately.
- Process cash, debit, and credit card payments.
- Communicate orders and customer requests clearly to the kitchen.
- Package dine-in, takeout and delivery orders.
- Prepare beverages and complete simple food-service tasks after training.
- Restock front-counter and service supplies.
- Maintain clean, organized service areas.
- Complete assigned opening, shift-handoff and end-of-shift duties
- Participate in shared and rotation-based cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, cleaning the employee washroom, and handling garbage, recycling and compost.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation and workplace-safety procedures.
- Support coworkers and respond calmly and respectfully to customer concerns.
Detailed procedures, cleaning rotations and task checklists will be provided during training.
Qualifications
- Dependable, punctual and available for the posted schedule.
- Friendly and professional communication.
- Good judgment, awareness and attention to detail.
- Comfortable handling money and performing basic calculations.
- Able to stay organized and respectful during busy periods.
- Willing to clean, restock and contribute to the overall operation.
- Able to follow instructions and receive feedback professionally.
- Previous cashier, restaurant, retail or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
- Food Handler Certification is an asset.
- French or Spanish is an asset.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
The position involves standing for most of the shift, using stairs, and safely lifting or carrying supplies and waste bags weighing up to approximately 25 lb.
