Commercial Contracts Specialist

Trycewell Partners is working with a growing construction management company that supports mine owners and EPCM teams on major mining and industrial projects across Canada and the United States.

We are looking for a Commercial Contracts Specialist to support an owner's team on remote mining construction projects in Western Canada. Calgary is the preferred home base, although candidates based elsewhere in British Columbia or Saskatchewan will also be considered. This is a fly-in/fly-out, site-based role on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation.

The right person will understand construction contracts, be comfortable working directly with contractors, and bring sound commercial judgment to a busy project environment.

Responsibilities

• Administer construction and service contracts from pre-award through execution and closeout.
• Support tendering, bid evaluations, contract negotiations and award recommendations.
• Manage contract correspondence, notices, changes, amendments and project records.
• Review contractor change proposals, claims, progress payments and invoices against contract requirements.
• Work with Construction Management, Project Controls, Engineering and Supply Chain to track commitments, costs, schedule impacts and commercial risks.
• Monitor contractor deliverables and performance, and help resolve contractual issues as they arise.
• Support final account reconciliation, handover and contract closeout.

Projects may include heavy civil works, underground development, process facilities, mine infrastructure and multidisciplinary construction packages.

Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in contract administration, commercial management, project controls or procurement on mining, industrial or infrastructure projects.
• Practical understanding of construction contracts, change management, payment administration and claims documentation.
• Strong written communication and the confidence to work directly with contractors and project teams.
• Experience with tendering and contract award processes is an asset.
• Experience with SAP, Ariba, Aconex, Contruent, Fieldglass or similar systems is an asset.
• Relevant post-secondary education is preferred; equivalent construction and contracts experience will be considered.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote sites.

Site work typically involves 12-hour days. Project-related flights, ground transportation, accommodation and meals are covered.
