About the Placement
CLGS is seeking a Receptionist – Administrative Employment Supports participant for a 6-month on-the-job training placement.
This employment opportunity is designed to provide individuals with disabilities and/or lived experience with practical workplace experience while developing the skills and confidence required for receptionist and administrative support roles.
The successful participant will work in a supportive office environment and receive opportunities for hands-on learning, coaching, mentorship, and skill development. Accommodations and workplace supports are available based on individual needs.
What You Will Learn and Do
Reception & Customer Service
- Welcome visitors and respond to general inquiries in a friendly and professional manner
- Answer and direct telephone calls and take accurate messages
- Support incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area
- Develop professional communication and customer-service skills Administrative Support
- Assist with preparing agendas, meeting materials, letters, memos, and routine documents
- Support document formatting, proofreading, scanning, photocopying, filing, and data entry
- Assist with organizing binders, records, and office materials
- Support meeting arrangements and other administrative activities
- Learn to prioritize tasks and manage day-to-day administrative responsibilities
- Keep track of outstanding items and follow up as needed
- Assist with tracking and distributing office equipment and supplies
Workplace Communication
- Write clear and professional emails and routine correspondence
- Assist with internal announcements and communications
- Support the preparation of basic social media or visual content
- Work collaboratively with the Employment Supports Team and other CLGS departments
- Learn how to communicate professionally with employees, visitors, and community partners
Skills We Are Looking to Develop
This placement is intended to provide training and experience. You do not need to already be an experienced receptionist.
We are looking for someone who is interested in developing skills in:
- Verbal and written communication
- Writing professional emails and routine correspondence
- Organization and time management
- Tracking tasks and following up on outstanding items
- Customer service
- Attention to detail
- Managing multiple tasks
- Using Microsoft Outlook and Word
- Using common office equipment and technology
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
- Working independently and as part of a team
- Inclusive and respectful workplace communication
Qualifications
- Secondary school completion or equivalent is preferred
- Interest in developing receptionist, administrative, or office-related skills
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technology
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and participate in on-the-job training
A diploma or coursework in Business Administration, Office Administration, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required.
Previous receptionist or administrative experience is also an asset but is not required.
Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
