Engineering Manager

As the Engineering Manager, you will provide day-to-day engineering and business leadership across two core areas of the business: Land Development projects and Building Engineering projects, including data centre MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) services. Reporting directly to the SVP & Managing Director, Global Engineering Operations, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team made up of Team Leads, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and Project Managers, ensuring the successful, on-time, and on-budget delivery of work across both departments.
As a licensed Professional Engineer with a background in Electrical Engineering, you will provide technical oversight, review, and mentorship to your team, including the Mechanical Engineers who report to you, while acting as a primary point of contact for client escalations. You will also own your department's monthly P&L and revenue forecasting, working closely with senior management to ensure the group consistently meets its financial targets. Excellent communication skills are essential — you will regularly bridge priorities, resourcing, and client needs across both the Land Development and Building MEP Services groups.Key ResponsibilitiesDepartmental & Cross-Functional Leadership

• Provide day-to-day engineering leadership across both the Land Development and Building MEP Services departments
• Balance and coordinate resourcing, priorities, and staffing across both departments to ensure each is adequately supported
• Serve as a key liaison between the two departments, ensuring consistent communication, alignment, and knowledge-sharing
• Act as a bridge between technical teams (Electrical and Mechanical) and project delivery/project management teams

Client Relationship & Escalation Management

• Serve as a primary point of contact for client escalations, listening to client concerns and driving them to resolution
• Build and maintain strong client relationships across Land Development and Building MEP Services engagements
• Ensure a consistent, client-first experience is delivered across both departments
• Coordinate with Team Leads and Project Managers to proactively identify and address issues before they become escalations

Financial & Business Management

• Own the department's monthly P&L, tracking revenue, cost, and profitability against targets
• Prepare and present monthly revenue forecasts, flagging risks and opportunities to senior management
• Manage departmental budgets, ensuring effective utilization of team resources
• Support pricing, proposal development, and cost estimation for new work across both departments

Team Leadership & Development

• Directly manage Team Leads, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and Project Managers across Land Development and Building MEP Services
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Mechanical Engineers on the team, in addition to Electrical staff
• Oversee task assignment, workload distribution, and performance management for the team
• Support the professional development and licensure progress (e.g., P.Eng process) of EITs on the team
• Conduct performance reviews and support hiring, onboarding, and training initiatives

Technical Oversight & Engineering Responsibilities

• Provide senior electrical engineering review and technical oversight on Land Development and Building MEP/data centre projects
• Ensure designs and deliverables comply with the local utility standards, National Electrical Code, and applicable codes and standards
• Review and approve electrical and mechanical design concepts prepared by the team
• Provide technical guidance on data centre MEP services, including power distribution, UPS systems, standby generation, and mechanical cooling systems
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues, escalating to the Director of Engineering or other technical leadership as needed

Project Management Oversight

• Oversee project delivery through design, coordination, construction, and close-out phases across both departments
• Ensure project schedules, milestones, and deliverables are tracked and met
• Facilitate design reviews and quality checks at key project milestones
• Identify scope changes beyond the original project scope and ensure appropriate fee adjustments are communicated to clients

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, required
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Minimum 15 years of relevant engineering experience, including experience in land development and/or building/data centre MEP design
• Prior people-management experience, including managing multi-disciplinary teams (Electrical and Mechanical)
• Demonstrated experience managing department or project P&L, budgets, and revenue forecasting
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to manage client relationships and resolve escalations
• Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code, and applicable energy codes
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple departments and projects
