MSCP Heat Management Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Planner to support the planning and execution of industrial maintenance, construction, and project work.

The Mechanical Planner is responsible for turning approved scopes of work into clear, executable work packages that allow field teams to complete work safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption. This position works closely with Project Management, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Safety, Quality, and field personnel to ensure labour, materials, equipment, drawings, permits, and supporting documentation are identified and available before work begins.

The successful candidate will have strong industrial mechanical knowledge and the ability to understand field conditions, anticipate execution constraints, and develop practical plans that support successful project delivery.

Our work requires close coordination between engineering, planning, procurement, manufacturing, and field execution. The Mechanical Planner plays an important role in ensuring work moves effectively through this system and reaches the field ready for execution.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Planner, you will:

Planning & Work Package Development

• Review project scopes, work orders, drawings, specifications, client requirements, and field information to determine execution requirements.

• Develop detailed and executable work packages for mechanical maintenance, construction, repair, and installation activities.

• Define work steps, sequencing, labour requirements, tools, equipment, materials, and estimated durations.

• Identify required permits, isolations, inspections, testing, quality documentation, and safety requirements.

• Review drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment information, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, field conflicts, and missing information before work reaches execution.

• Develop job plans that consider access, lifting, scaffolding, rope access, insulation removal/reinstatement, equipment availability, and other supporting activities.

• Conduct field walkdowns to validate scope and confirm actual site conditions.

• Incorporate lessons learned and field feedback into future planning.

Materials & Resource Coordination

• Develop material take-offs and identify required parts, consumables, tools, and equipment.

• Confirm material availability and coordinate requirements with Supply Chain and project personnel.

• Identify long-lead materials and potential procurement constraints early in the planning process.

• Coordinate specialized equipment, lifting requirements, access requirements, and subcontractor support where applicable.

• Verify that required materials and resources are available before planned work is released for execution.

• Assist with manpower planning by identifying required trades, crew composition, and estimated labour hours.

Mechanical & Technical Support

• Support planning for piping, valves, mechanical equipment, supports, structural components, insulation, and related industrial systems.

• Interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment specifications, and vendor documentation.

• Work with Engineering and field personnel to resolve technical questions and clarify scope.

• Assist with constructability reviews and development of practical field execution strategies.

• Support maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation planning for industrial mechanical systems.

• Ensure plans incorporate applicable client specifications, quality requirements, and project standards.

Execution Support

• Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, and field personnel to ensure work packages are practical and executable.

• Participate in planning meetings, readiness reviews, schedule discussions, and project coordination meetings.

• Monitor execution feedback and adjust plans when field conditions or project requirements change.

• Support resolution of emergent work and changing priorities.

• Track planned versus actual labour, materials, and execution requirements to improve future estimating and planning.

• Assist with shutdown, turnaround, and maintenance planning where required.

• Support project closeout by ensuring completed work packages and supporting documentation are properly maintained.

Safety & Quality

• Incorporate applicable safety requirements, hazards, controls, and client procedures into work planning.

• Ensure work packages clearly identify applicable permits, isolations, inspections, testing, and quality requirements.

• Coordinate with Safety and Quality personnel to ensure work is properly prepared before execution.

• Promote proactive hazard identification and elimination during the planning stage rather than relying solely on field-level controls.

• Support compliance with MSCP, client, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial mechanical, maintenance, construction, or planning experience preferred.

• Journeyperson certification in Pipefitting, Millwright, Boilermaking, or another relevant mechanical trade is considered a strong asset.

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Planner, Maintenance Planner, Field Planner, or Turnaround Planner is preferred.

• Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, piping, valves, equipment, and maintenance practices.

• Experience developing detailed work packages and job plans.

• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Experience completing field walkdowns and translating field conditions into executable plans.

• Strong understanding of materials, tools, equipment, labour requirements, and construction sequencing.

• Experience in refinery, oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial maintenance, or similar environments is strongly preferred.

• Experience with shutdowns and turnarounds is considered an asset.

• Strong computer skills and experience working with digital project or maintenance management systems.

• Experience with Procore, SAP, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar systems is considered an asset.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and changing project requirements.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively with field trades, supervision, Engineering, Supply Chain, Safety, Quality, and Project Management.

The scope is understood. Materials are available. Drawings and specifications are current. Access and equipment requirements have been considered. Safety and quality requirements are identified. Dependencies are understood. The work package provides the field team with a clear path to completing the work.

The Mechanical Planner is expected to identify and resolve constraints before they become field execution problems.
