Research Assistant - Cell Biology

As part of our continued expansion, we are currently looking for a motivated Research Assistant – Cell Biology to join our R&D team. This is a junior/entry-level position suitable for a recent graduate with strong hands-on laboratory training and preferably previous biotechnology or life sciences industry co-op experience.

Working closely with senior scientists, the successful candidate will support cutting-edge R&D projects involving induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), organoids, advanced cell culture models, and other emerging cell biology technologies.

We are looking for someone who is curious, hands-on, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. The ideal candidate does not need extensive industry experience but should demonstrate strong scientific fundamentals, good laboratory habits, and genuine interest in developing expertise in advanced cell biology technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine mammalian cell culture, including cell maintenance, passaging, freezing, thawing, and monitoring cell health.
• Assist senior scientists with iPSC, organoid, and advanced cell biology research projects.
• Support the development and optimization of cell culture protocols, differentiation methods, and cell-based assays.
• Prepare media, reagents, buffers, and other materials required for experiments.
• Perform routine laboratory techniques such as microscopy, cell counting, sample preparation, and basic molecular or cellular assays.
• Accurately document experimental procedures, observations, and results.
• Assist with data collection, organization, and preliminary analysis.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, cell banks, and organized experimental records.
• Follow established SOPs, laboratory safety procedures, and quality standards.
• Work collaboratively with scientists and other R&D team members on ongoing research and product development projects.
• Perform other R&D and laboratory duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Virology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Hands-on mammalian cell culture experience gained through co-op, internship, academic research, or related laboratory experience is strongly preferred.
• Previous biotechnology or life sciences industry co-op experience is preferred.
• Experience with stem cells, iPSCs, organoids, primary cells, 3D culture, or cell-based assays is a strong asset.
• Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Location

• Onsite at our headquarters in Richmond, BC.
• The successful candidate must be available to start onsite from the first day of employment. No relocation allowance will be provided.

Employment Type: 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension to a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

Compensation

• Salary CAD $50,000 – $60,000 base, commensurate with education and relevant hands-on laboratory experience.
