Tax Partner North York, Ontario
Compensation: Base salary $170K+ negotiable dependent on experience. Performance bonus and business development incentives.
A well-established and growing accounting firm in North York is seeking an experienced Tax Partner / Senior Tax Leader to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Tax Manager, Senior Manager, or Partner who is looking for a long-term leadership position and the opportunity to build and grow a tax practice. The ideal candidate will have broad-based Canadian tax experience, strong technical capabilities and a practical, commercial approach to advising owner-managed businesses and privately held organizations. Tax Compliance
  • Review and oversee T2 corporate income tax returns, personal tax returns, trust returns and partnership information returns.
  • Review HST/GST and other indirect tax filings, elections and information reporting.
  • Review tax returns and other compliance work prepared by team members.
  • Conduct advanced tax research and provide practical solutions to complex tax matters.
  • Ensure compliance with the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation.
  • Identify tax risks and opportunities across the client portfolio.
  • Advise clients on tax controversy matters, including CRA audits, assessments, objections and appeals.
Tax Advisory & Planning
  • Develop tax-efficient corporate and personal strategies for clients.
  • Advise owner-managed businesses and entrepreneurs on tax planning opportunities.
  • Analyze corporate structures and recommend strategies to optimize tax outcomes.
  • Provide advice relating to reorganizations, transactions and structural changes.
  • Identify and develop high-value tax planning opportunities.
  • Monitor changes to Canadian tax legislation and communicate their impact to clients.
  • Provide practical, commercially focused solutions to complex tax issues.
Client & Practice Leadership
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with an established portfolio of clients.
  • Meet directly with business owners, management teams and senior decision-makers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key tax clients.
  • Lead and oversee tax engagements from planning through completion.
  • Mentor, coach and develop junior and intermediate tax professionals.
  • Review work and provide technical guidance to team members.

Client & Practice Leadership (continued)
  • Monitor engagement budgets, deadlines and profitability.
  • Participate in billing and collection processes.
  • Contribute to the continued development and growth of the firm's tax practice.
  • Participate in networking, seminars, client events and other business development initiatives.
  • Prepare technical-insight articles and blogs to be shared with clients through its website
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and generate new business.
  • Represent the firm within the professional and business community.
Candidate Profile
  • 15+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with a significant focus on Canadian taxation.
  • CPA designation.
  • Previous experience at the Manager, Senior Manager, Director or Partner level.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal taxation.
  • Extensive experience working with owner-managed businesses and privately held companies.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act.
  • Demonstrated experience across both tax compliance and tax planning/advisory.
  • Experience reviewing T2s, T1 personal tax returns, trusts, HST/GST filings and other tax-related compliance.
  • Strong tax research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring and developing tax professionals.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong project and time management capabilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong business acumen and a client-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing as a senior member of the team.
  • Experience with CaseWare, TaxPrep and Microsoft Office.
Ideal Background The firm is particularly interested in candidates who have developed a broad-based tax practice rather than being narrowly specialized in a single area of taxation. Professionals from mid-sized public accounting firms, regional firms or Enterprise-type environments may be particularly well suited to the opportunity. Candidates from larger firms may also be considered where they have significant experience working directly with privately held and owner-managed businesses. The successful candidate should be comfortable operating as both a technical tax expert and trusted business advisor. The successful would be open to overseeing the execution of compilation engagements that are primarily tax-focused client relationships.
