JOB SUMMARY
The Junior Fiber and Cabling Technician is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications structured cabling systems. The primary focus of this position is basic structured cabling installation for commercial buildings, industrial applications, temporary facilities, and wireless access points.
The Junior Fiber and Cabling Technician will work under the direction of a Team Lead or experienced technician and will assist with the installation of copper and fiber optic cabling. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills and gain experience with fiber optic installation, testing, and troubleshooting as they progress in the role.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read, interpret, and follow telecommunications drawings and specifications with direction as required.
- Install basic structured cabling components, including Cat 5E, Cat 6, and Cat 6A.
- Assist with the installation of fiber optic cabling and related components.
- Assist with the installation and testing of communication circuits and cabling networks.
- Assist with the installation and termination of patch panels, jacks, connectors, and other cabling components.
- Assist with service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and/or industrial communication circuits and cabling networks.
- Assist experienced technicians with fiber optic preparation, testing, and other fiber-related tasks as required.
- Learn and develop skills related to fiber optic installation, testing, splicing, and troubleshooting as training and experience are gained.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers.
- Provide good customer service and maintain positive working relationships with customers and coworkers.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Postsecondary education in telecommunications, electronics, electrical, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, construction, electrical, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous fiber optic experience is an asset but not required.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in a hands-on field environment.
Asset
- CommScope Systimax certification or training.
- Belden certification or training.
- Corning certification or training.
- TE Connectivity Fiber Optic certification or training.
Other Requirements
- Legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Clean 5-Year Driver's Abstract.
- Clear Criminal Record Check.
- Successful completion of a pre-access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing client-required testing.
