Plan Group is seeking an experienced Audio Visual (AV) Systems Design Engineer to join our growing Technology & Smart Building Solutions Team. As a leader in integrated building technology, Plan Group designs and delivers intelligent, connected environments across commercial real estate, healthcare, institutional, and mission-critical facilities.

Leveraging your expertise in commercial AV systems, collaboration technologies, AV-over-IP, and networked media, you will be responsible for the design, engineering, estimating, and technical development of AV solutions. Working closely with clients, consultants, manufacturers, distributors, and internal teams, you will review specifications and RFP requirements, develop system designs, prepare Bills of Materials, and create comprehensive project estimates.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented AV professional with strong industry relationships, technical expertise, and commercial awareness who can help Plan Group deliver innovative, competitive, and integrated technology solutions.

As our AV System Design Engineer, you will:

  • Review RFPs, specifications, drawings, consultant documents, and client requirements to identify project scope and technical requirements.
  • Design complete AV solutions for Corporate and enterprise AV Environments.
  • Develop detailed AV system designs, functional diagrams, signal flow diagrams, riser diagrams, rack elevations, and equipment layouts..
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches to maximize performance while maintaining cost competitiveness.
  • Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for each room type and system configuration and obtain and evaluate pricing.
  • Generate complete project estimates including hardware, software licensing, programming, installation, commissioning, project management, engineering, documentation, owner training, indirect labor, and all costs required to successfully deliver the solution.
  • Support competitive bid strategies during tender and proposal submissions.
  • Develop technical proposal content and scope narratives.
  • Work closely with network engineering teams to define AV infrastructure requirements, network architecture, bandwidth requirements, VLANs, and AV protocols to ensure successful deployment of network-based AV systems.
  • Maintain strong relationships with AV manufacturers, distributors, consultants, and technology partners to support solution development, product selection, and competitive pricing.
  • Stay informed on emerging AV technologies, market trends, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in manufacturer training, certifications, demonstrations, and industry events.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Audio Visual Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing commercial AV systems.
  • AV Certifications preferred including CTS, Crestron, Q-Sys, Dante, Biamp, etc.
  • Strong experience responding to RFPs and developing competitive bid submissions.
  • Extensive knowledge and relationships of commercial AV manufacturers.
  • Deep understanding of AV-over-IP technologies and associated network protocols
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
