We are seeking a part-time Lab Support Technician to join our team. In this role, you will support Ayrton Energy's chemistry team through laboratory coordination, sample preparation, imaging, and technical documentation. Your work will help ensure high-quality characterization data is collected, organized, and delivered to support ongoing research and development activities.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and book access to SEM and sputter coating equipment in accordance with facility scheduling requirements
  • Transport samples between Ayrton Energy and contracted laboratory facilities for imaging and analysis, ensuring samples are handled and documented in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepare and mount samples for SEM analysis following Ayrton Energy's established procedures
  • Operate sputter coating equipment to apply conductive coatings to samples when required
  • Perform SEM imaging and data collection according to analysis requirements provided
  • Maintain accurate records of sample preparation, coating parameters, imaging activities, and session outcomes
  • Label, organize, and securely transfer image and data files to Ayrton Energy's designated systems
  • Maintain a session log, documenting sample identifiers, equipment usage, and any anomalies encountered during analysis sessions
  • Communicate equipment issues, scheduling conflicts, or sample-related concerns with technical team

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in chemistry, materials science, engineering, physics, nanoscience, or a related STEM field
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment through coursework, research projects, co-op placements, or previous employment is an asset
  • Comfortable learning and operating specialized laboratory and analytical equipment
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow established procedures and work independently
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, communication, and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between facilities

Compensation:

  • Part-time role, paid hourly
  • 5-10 hours per week, hours may vary based on operational needs
