Temporary - Financial Reporting Analyst - 20-Months

Status: Temporary/ Contract (20-Months)
Community Living Sarnia-Lambton is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Reporting Analyst for a temporary contract. Reporting to the Finance leadership team and working closely with the Executive Director and Program Leaders, you will ensure the financial health and compliance of our agency. You will lead financial reporting, budget development, ministry compliance, variance tracking, and process improvements across multiple funded programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements within established deadlines.
- Assist the Controller in constructing, maintaining, and monitoring annual operating budgets across all government-funded programs.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analyses comparing actual results against budgets and forecasts.
- Build dynamic financial models and forecasts using historical trends and funding parameters to improve accuracy.
- Assist with month-end/year-end closing procedures and compile supporting documentation for external audits.
- Government Ministry Reporting & Funding Compliance:
- Prepare and submit required financial accountability reports to government ministries, grant providers, and funding agencies.
- Reconcile program expenditures against funding allocations to ensure strict adherence to agreement guidelines and restrictions.
- Track expenses and generate financial schedules for special initiatives, capital projects, and grants.
- Identify reporting risks and recommend corrective actions to ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Financial Analysis & Decision Support:
- Analyze financial and operational datasets to identify cost-efficiencies, financial trends, and operational risks.
- Develop key financial and operational performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and executive presentations.
- Conduct cost-benefit and return-on-investment (ROI) analyses for capital projects, process improvements, and technology investments.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and business case support for senior leadership.
- Process Improvement & Systems Enhancement:
- Document and evaluate end-to-end financial workflows to strengthen internal controls and operational efficiency.
- Identify manual reporting processes and implement automated solutions.
- Create user guides, training materials, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Finance team and program managers.
- Support the testing, implementation, and optimization of accounting software and business intelligence tools.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication:
- Present complex financial data clearly to both financial staff and non-financial program managers.
- Lead regular financial review meetings with internal program stakeholders to review budget performance.
- Provide continuous guidance to department heads regarding budgeting rules, expense coding, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or related field. CPA designation (completed or actively pursuing) is a strong asset.
- Experience: 2–4 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, or accounting.
- Sector Knowledge: Experience in a non-profit, developmental services, healthcare, or public sector environment with multi-source government funding is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Power Query, lookups, financial modeling) and proficiency with accounting software/ERP tools.
- Clearances: A current, satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check is required upon hire.
