Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Avionics | Union-Scale Pay & Relocation Support
This role may also be known as: Avionics Technician, Aircraft Avionics Engineer, Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) – Avionics, AME-E
If you're an Avionics AME looking for steady, structured work instead of one-off jobs, this is worth a conversation. You'd join a unionized aerospace and defence shop supporting long-cycle maintenance programs — the kind of environment where aircraft stay in the shop for 100+ days at a time, so you're seeing full A to E check packages through from start to finish rather than rushing quick turnarounds.
Pay is set under a collective agreement that recognizes your relevant experience (up to seven years), so you're not stuck relying on annual negotiations to see your pay move. You'll also be part of a genuine crew structure — apprentices, unlicensed AMEs, senior engineers, crew leads and a supervisor — built for both learning and leading.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Unlike a lot of shops, pay progression here is built into the structure, not left to chance — a scheduled increase every March 31, plus an automatic step-up after your first year. You'll work in defined crews of about ten, meaning real access to senior engineers and crew leads rather than being one of hundreds on a floor. The work itself — long-cycle military aircraft programs — offers depth and project continuity that shorter maintenance cycles don't, and there's a clear, structured runway from apprentice through to senior engineer.
What You'll Be Doing
Complete maintenance, repair, and overhaul work on aircraft avionics systems within your certification scope
Work through full A to E check packages on large aircraft, seeing major maintenance programs through from start to finish
Document your work to regulatory and internal quality standards so aircraft return to service safely and on schedule
Coach and mentor apprentices and junior technicians as you build seniority
Collaborate within a structured, ten-person crew alongside senior engineers, crew leads, and a supervisor
What We're Looking For
$33.98–$46.07 per hour based on relevant experience under the collective agreement (recognizes up to 7 years of experience, with room to grow beyond), plus a scheduled increase every March 31 and a level increase after 1 year of employment. Premiums available for ACA certification. Full-time, onsite, unionized environment. Choice of shift: Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or Monday–Friday 3:15 PM–11:45 PM, with the option to pick up weekend shifts (13.5 hours, 7:00 AM–8:00 PM).

What We're Looking For
- Valid M2 license or License E for Avionics (military background or direct C130 experience may substitute for licensure)
- Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering recognized by Transport Canada or an equivalent governing body
- Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency (required for Controlled Goods clearance)
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Comfort operating within a defined certification scope and following documentation/quality procedures precisely
- A collaborative mindset — equally willing to learn from senior engineers and mentor newer technicians
