Junior Structural Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Woodbridge, Ontario. Our firm specializes in the design of complex heavy industrial facilities, including projects within the cement, lime, mining, and pulp and paper sectors. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute to projects across Canada and the United States while gaining valuable hands-on experience and professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities: As a Junior Engineer, you will:

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering deliverables, including structural calculations, reports, drawings, and 3D models.
  • Support the design and analysis of steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation systems for industrial and commercial projects.
  • Utilize engineering and drafting software such as RISA, SAP2000, Revit, and Bluebeam to develop design documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate project documentation and contribute to project scheduling and execution activities.
  • Communicate with clients and project stakeholders regarding technical matters, document preparation, and project deliverables as required.
  • Support site visits and field investigations when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Approximately 1 to 3 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within heavy industrial sectors such as mining, cement, lime, or pulp and paper.
  • Knowledge of, or a strong interest in developing expertise in, structural steel and reinforced concrete design.
  • Exposure to structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, RISA, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with North American building codes and structural design standards, or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Effective time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceptional client service.

Technical experience: Experience or exposure to the following structural systems would be considered an asset:

  • Reinforced and post-tensioned concrete structures
  • Reinforced masonry systems
  • Structural steel and composite steel construction
  • Shallow, deep, and raft foundation systems
  • Concrete, masonry, and wood shear wall systems
  • Braced frame and moment-resisting steel frame systems

Professional requirements:

  • Eligibility for registration, or registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
  • Good standing with the applicable professional regulatory body, where applicable.
