CI Assante | DB Wealth Planning Group
Winnipeg, MB
Job Details:
Associate Advisor / Financial Planner
CI Assante Wealth Management | DB Wealth Planning Group
Winnipeg, Manitoba | Full-Time
About DB Wealth Planning Group
DB Wealth Planning Group is an established wealth management practice operating through CI Assante Wealth Management in Winnipeg, Manitoba. For more than 45 years, our practice has helped individuals, families, professionals and business owners make informed decisions about their financial futures.
Our approach extends beyond investment management. We work closely with our clients across retirement, investment, tax, insurance and estate planning to develop comprehensive strategies based on their individual circumstances, priorities and long-term goals.
As our practice continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Associate Advisor to join our team and play an important role in delivering advice and service to our existing client relationships.
The Opportunity
This is a client-focused financial planning position for someone who enjoys the analytical, relationship-management and implementation sides of wealth management.
The Associate Advisor will work closely with our lead advisors to service and manage established client relationships, prepare comprehensive financial planning analyses and help implement planning recommendations.
This is not a traditional prospecting or business-development role. You will work with an established base of clients rather than being expected to build a book of business from scratch.
This opportunity is particularly well suited to an advisor who enjoys comprehensive financial planning, solving complex client needs, and building long-term relationships, with a primary focus on serving and managing existing clients rather than prospecting for new business.
As you become familiar with our clients, processes and approach to wealth management, you will progressively assume greater responsibility for managing day-to-day client relationships and delivering financial planning advice independently.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Prepare and update comprehensive financial plans and retirement projections
- Analyze retirement income, cash-flow and long-term funding requirements
- Model different financial scenarios, identify gaps in their planning and help clients understand the implications of our suggestions and their decisions
- Identify tax planning opportunities and incorporate tax considerations into financial planning recommendations
- Assist with estate and legacy planning strategies
- Conduct insurance needs analyses and develop appropriate insurance planning recommendations
- Identify gaps, risks and opportunities across clients' overall financial situations
- Analyze investment portfolio, determine adequate risk suitability assessments and suggest changes to their asset mix as necessary
Client Relationship Management
- Respond to day-to-day client planning and service inquiries
- Assist the lead advisor in client review and financial planning meetings
- Progressively lead client meetings and assume greater responsibility for established relationships
- Explain complex financial concepts and recommendations clearly and confidently
- Develop a thorough understanding of clients' goals, families, businesses and financial circumstances
- Proactively identify emerging planning needs as clients' circumstances evolve
- Maintain a high level of responsiveness and personal service our clients expect
Implementation & Coordination
- Translate financial planning recommendations into clear implementation steps
- Coordinate recommendations and implementation within our advisory and administrative teams
- Work collaboratively with clients' accountants, lawyers and other professional advisors when appropriate
- Follow up on outstanding recommendations and ensure planning strategies are carried through to completion
- Maintain accurate and complete client documentation
- Ensure all recommendations and client interactions meet applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical financial planning capabilities with excellent judgment, communication and relationship-management skills.
The right candidate enjoys getting into the details of a client's financial situation, analyzing alternatives and turning that analysis into simple and practical recommendations so clients can clearly understand their options and make a well-educated decision.
Just as importantly, you enjoy working with people. You want to understand clients beyond their investment portfolios, build trusted long-term relationships and help them make better financial decisions throughout different stages of their lives.
Required Qualifications
- Mutual fund and ETF investment licensed
- Life, Accident & Sickness insurance licensed
- Relevant professional experience within financial planning, wealth management or an advisory practice
- Experience working directly with clients in an advisory or planning capacity
- Strong understanding of retirement, investment and insurance planning
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, organization and follow-through
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CFP® designation or progress toward obtaining the designation
- CPA® designation or progress toward obtaining the designation
- 3-5 years of relevant financial services experience in Canada
- Experience preparing comprehensive retirement and financial planning projections
- Working knowledge of Canadian personal and corporate tax planning concepts
- Working knowledge of estate and succession planning concepts
- Experience working with incorporated professionals, business owners and higher-net-worth households
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is not measured by how many new clients you prospect.
Instead, success means becoming a trusted member of our clients' advisory team and consistently delivering high-quality financial planning and service.
Over time, you will:
- Independently manage a growing portion of day-to-day client relationships
- Produce accurate, thoughtful and actionable financial planning analyses
- Lead client planning and review meetings with increasing independence
- Identify planning opportunities that add meaningful value to client relationships
- Coordinate and implement recommendations effectively
- Develop strong relationships with clients and their other professional advisors
- Help create additional capacity for our lead advisors to focus on complex planning, key relationships and the continued growth of the practice
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package designed to reward excellent financial planning, client service and relationship management rather than individual sales production.
The anticipated compensation structure includes:
- Base salary of $70,000–$90,000; depending on experience, qualifications and licensing
- Employee benefits and retirement program
- Support for continuing education and professional development throughout your career
- Support for maintaining applicable industry licensing and designations
- Support for candidates pursuing the CFP® designation
Exceptional candidates with significant comprehensive financial planning and client relationship experience may be considered above the stated salary range.
