The core scope is exchanger work: isolate, blind, break the flanges, pull the bundle, then reinstall, gasket up, torque and put it back in service on a schedule that does not move. You work in a fitter and welder crew under a turnaround foreman, with pipe work, tie-ins and spool changes around the exchanger scope. What You'll Do
  • Pull, replace and reinstall shell and tube heat exchanger bundles using extractors and hydraulic pullers
  • Break out and make up exchanger flanges, install gaskets, and torque to spec
  • Isolate, blind and de-blind equipment to the blind list, and support line breaks safely
  • Fit, tack and install piping spools, valves and fittings from isometric drawings
  • Rig and move bundles, spools and equipment safely with cranes, hoists and come-alongs
  • Work alongside welders, boilermakers and millwrights to keep the critical path moving
  • Take part in safety meetings, FLHAs and JSAs, and follow site lockout and permit procedures
What You Bring
  • Journeyman steamfitter-pipefitter trade certificate (Alberta or Red Seal, or equivalent recognized certification)
  • Shutdown and turnaround experience on producing oil and gas or industrial facilities
  • Exchanger bundle pulling and bundle replacement experience, hands on
  • Able to read isometric and P&ID drawings and work from a turnaround scope package
  • Rigging and flange work: gasket selection, bolt-up patterns and torque procedures
  • Valid driver's licence, CSA approved safety boots (minimum 6 inch, fully laceable), and current safety tickets
  • Able to work 12 hour shifts, days or nights, for the length of the outage, and repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of Alcohol and Drug Screening
  • Successful completion of comprehensive Fitness-to-Work Assessment. This assessment is job-related, focusing on the physical demands and safety sensitive nature of the work, and is conducted in accordance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and the Alberta Human Rights Act. The assessment will cover:
    • Health History Review: A thorough examination of the candidate's health background.
    • Pre-Medical Evaluation: Measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
    • Musculoskeletal Examination: A head-to-toe assessment to identify any limitations or concerns related to physical health.
    • Critical Strength and Mobility Test: A series of tasks assessing lifting, carrying, and positional abilities aligned with the job's physical demands (up to 50 lbs).
  • Worker to provide a valid trade certificate, valid safety training tickets, a valid driver's licence, and CSA approved safety boots (minimum 6 inch, fully laceable)
Nice to Have
  • Bundle extractor operation, or experience on a dedicated exchanger crew
  • Confined space entry and rescue experience, and a current respirator fit test
Work Environment
  • Shutdown schedule of up to 12 hours a day, days or nights as required and subject to change with turnaround needs
  • Outdoor and elevated work in all weather, year round
  • Physical work, including repeated lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, and positional work in tight spaces
  • Noise, vibration and confined space work on the exchanger scope
  • Living and Working Away allowance paid on top of the wage for workers travelling in to the region
Why Pipefitters Take This JobBundle pulling is a specific skill and this client pays for it. The range tops out at $52.00 an hour, and where you land comes down to shutdown experience you can verify, not a number talked down after the interview. The LWA is paid on top of the hourly rate, so travel and living do not come out of your wage. What We Offer
  • Living and Working Away allowance paid on top of the hourly wage
  • Overtime available based on operational requirements
  • Life insurance plus AD&D with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health and dental: drugs, hospital, vision, paramedical, mental health, and child orthodontics
  • Travel insurance, plus ongoing training and career development support
