General Superintendent – Heavy Civil & Mining

14/7 Rotation | Camp Provided | FIFO from Edmonton or Calgary | Competitive Compensation
Skyline Recruitment is partnering with an established heavy civil contractor to hire an experienced General Superintendent for a long-term opportunity at a major oil sands mining operation in the Fort McMurray region.
The contractor has maintained a continuous workload at site and has a strong backlog of secured and upcoming work across major earthworks, mine progression, civil infrastructure, pond construction and reclamation.
This is a senior field leadership position responsible for overseeing multiple concurrent work fronts, Superintendents, Foremen, manpower and heavy equipment operations.
Current & Upcoming Work
• Large-scale overburden operations utilizing heavy mining equipment, including shovel and haul truck fleets
• Mine progression and cleanup within an active mining environment
• Construction of ponds, including HDPE liner installation, spillways and overflow systems
• Dewatering infrastructure including ditches, sumps and associated civil works
• Mine road construction, maintenance and shovel work areas
• Fall and winter reclamation programs
• Strong backlog of additional civil and pond projects over the coming years
Responsibilities
• Provide overall field leadership across multiple heavy civil and mining projects
• Lead and support Superintendents, General Foremen and field crews across multiple work fronts
• Coordinate manpower, equipment and resources to maintain production targets
• Oversee large-scale earthworks, overburden and heavy equipment operations
• Monitor productivity, schedule, cost, safety and quality performance
• Work closely with project management and the client's mine operations team
• Coordinate mine progression activities within an active operating environment
• Ensure work is executed safely and in accordance with environmental requirements
• Identify field risks, production constraints and opportunities to improve execution
• Mentor and develop field leadership teams
• Maintain strong communication between operations, project management and the client
Requirements
• Extensive experience in heavy civil, mining, earthworks or oil sands construction
• Previous experience at General Superintendent, Senior Superintendent or similar senior field leadership level
• Strong experience managing multiple projects or work fronts simultaneously
• Proven experience with large-scale earthworks and heavy equipment production
• Experience with shovel and haul truck operations strongly preferred
• Experience with overburden, reclamation, mine progression, tailings, ponds or similar scopes highly valuable
• Strong understanding of equipment utilization, manpower planning and production tracking
• Comfortable working collaboratively with an owner in an active mine environment
• Strong safety, leadership and communication skills
• Oil sands or large-scale mining experience considered highly valuable
