The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Field Survey Assistant to join our growing Survey and Geomatics team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, wants to build on their surveying experience, and is looking to develop their technical skills while working alongside experienced survey professionals.
The Field Survey Assistant will work closely with a Field Survey Technician (Party Chief) and Project Manager, gaining hands-on experience across a diverse range of survey projects throughout the Lower Mainland and beyond. You'll have the opportunity to build on your existing field experience, work with modern survey technology, and develop your skills across a variety of project types, including legal and strata surveys, topographic and right-of-way surveys, infrastructure and capital works, construction layout and monitoring, surveys on First Nations lands, and other specialized survey projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Party Chief with all aspects of field survey operations.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain modern surveying equipment, including total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and related equipment.
  • Assist with field measurements, construction layout, topographic surveys, legal surveys, and other survey activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of field notes, survey records, and project information.
  • Ensure survey equipment is properly maintained, organized, and ready for field use.
  • Assist with site preparation, including clearing vegetation and debris as required to obtain survey measurements.
  • Work safely and efficiently in a variety of field environments and conditions.
  • Communicate professionally with Party Chiefs, Project Managers, clients, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and professional team environment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Previous field surveying experience is an asset.
  • Survey or Geomatics Technology Diploma is an asset.
  • Experience with Leica surveying equipment is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of survey field procedures, equipment setup, and field data collection.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical surveying skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a field crew and take direction from experienced survey professionals.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach when working with colleagues, clients, contractors, and the public.
  • Physically capable of working outdoors and lifting and carrying survey equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel and work out of town occasionally.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for business use; mileage will be compensated.


Compensation
The hourly range for this position is $28 to 35 per hour, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
