Shift Supervisor - Night Shift

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day production activities and ensuring the safe, efficient, and consistent execution of the production plan. This role provides frontline leadership to production employees, supports operational priorities, and helps maintain high standards of safety, quality, productivity, and employee performance.

The Production Supervisor serves as a key point of communication between employees, management, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, and other departments. The successful candidate will be a confident and approachable leader who can remain calm under pressure, respond effectively to operational challenges, and support a positive and accountable work environment.

Quick Plug Canada currently operates on a four-day workweek, Monday through Thursday, with shifts of approximately 10–11 hours. Overtime may be available or required based on operational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee day-to-day production activities to ensure production targets, quality standards, and operational priorities are achieved.
• Promote and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring employees follow all health and safety policies, procedures, safe work practices, and PPE requirements.
• Assign daily work and provide clear direction to production employees based on production priorities and staffing requirements.
• Monitor employee performance throughout the shift and provide coaching, feedback, support, and direction as required.
• Support employee training, onboarding, cross-training, and skill development to strengthen overall team capability.
• Ensure established work instructions, standard operating procedures, quality requirements, and production processes are followed consistently.
• Monitor production output, efficiency, quality, downtime, and other key operational measures throughout the shift.
• Identify and respond to production issues, equipment concerns, quality issues, staffing challenges, and other operational disruptions.
• Escalate equipment or maintenance concerns and work collaboratively with Maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Partner with Quality to address quality concerns, corrective actions, and process improvements.
• Coordinate with management and other departments to ensure effective communication and alignment of production activities.
• Support production planning, material flow, inventory requirements, and the movement of raw materials and finished products.
• Ensure equipment is operated safely and in accordance with established operating procedures.
• Complete production reports, shift documentation, incident reports, and other required operational records accurately and on time.
• Maintain effective communication between shifts, including clear handoffs of production status, outstanding issues, priorities, and equipment concerns.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, training, workflow, and overall plant performance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in the development and implementation of improved work processes.
• Maintain appropriate housekeeping and workplace organization standards throughout the production area.
• Address employee concerns professionally and escalate employee relations matters to management or Human Resources when appropriate.
• Support attendance management by monitoring staffing levels, reporting absences, and coordinating available resources to maintain production requirements.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.

Essential Qualifications

• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and the ability to promote and enforce safe work practices.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide direction, coaching, feedback, and accountability to employees.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively to changing production requirements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing operations, production processes, and production planning.
• General mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify or communicate basic equipment and maintenance concerns.
• Ability to interpret production requirements, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and quality expectations.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and operational consistency.
• Ability to remain professional, calm, and solutions-focused during production interruptions or challenging situations.
• Ability to work additional hours before or after the scheduled shift when required to complete supervisory responsibilities or provide an effective shift handoff.

Education and Experience:

• 3 years of supervisory experience
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
• Leadership training/courses considered an asset
• Previous manufacturing or comparative experience (preferred).
• Detail oriented and high level of quality expectation.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

Language Skills

• Ability to read, write, and speak English;

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.
• The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• The employee must often lift and/or move product up to 50 pounds.
• The employee must be capable of properly wearing a respirator and other applicable PPE and safety equipment, as required
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
