WinstonBrock Recruitment, on behalf of our manufacturing client in the Niagara Region, is seeking an experienced Manual Cylindrical Grinder.
About Our Client: Our client is an established, Niagara-based precision manufacturing company specializing in custom industrial rolls and components. Their operation includes precision machining, grinding and specialized surface finishing for industrial applications.
Job Summary: This is a hands-on role for an experienced Manual Cylindrical Grinder who can independently set up and operate manual grinding equipment. The successful candidate will perform OD and ID grinding on both small and large components, working from engineering drawings to achieve precise dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: On-site, Grimsby, Niagara Region
Compensation: $34 - $38/hour, RRSP match and employer-sponsored health benefits
What You Will Be Doing

• Set up, adjust and operate manual cylindrical grinding machines
• Perform OD and ID grinding on both small and large components
• Select the appropriate grinding wheels based on material, finish and job requirements
• Dress grinding wheels to achieve required profiles and surface finishes
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders and tolerance specifications
• Grind components to tight tolerances, including tolerances as close as ±0.0002"
• Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges and other precision measuring instruments
• Independently identify and correct grinding issues including chatter, taper and burns
• Perform basic daily equipment maintenance
• Maintain a clean and safe work area

Experience & Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of hands-on manual cylindrical grinding experience preferred
• Strong experience with manual OD and ID cylindrical grinding
• Ability to independently set up and operate cylindrical grinding equipment
• Experience selecting and dressing grinding wheels
• Strong ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings
• Experience working with tight-tolerance machining
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges and other precision measuring tools
• Good understanding of metallurgy and grinding dynamics
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to safely handle materials weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs.)
• High school diploma, machinist apprenticeship or related vocational training is an asset; however, strong hands-on cylindrical grinding experience will be considered in place of formal training.
