About Us
The Canadian Media Producers Association is Canada's trade association for independent producers. We represent hundreds of companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language content for TV, feature film and digital media channels. The CMPA works on behalf of our producer members to ensure a bright future for domestic media production and Canadian content.
The CMPA is currently seeking an experienced Manager, Industry and Business Affairs for our Toronto office. In this role, the successful candidate translates funding, tax credits and policy developments into practical guidance, and is responsible for providing day-to-day advice to CMPA members on business affairs and production financing strategies. The Manager is responsible for monitoring and updating members and staff on funding guidelines, tax credits, and other policy changes that affect the business affairs needs of our members.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Advisory and Business Affairs Guidance
- Provide practical, broad-based advice to CMPA members on business affairs matters, including production budgeting, financing, recoupment, business operations, rights clearances, insurance, and relationships with distributors, platforms, and broadcasters.
- Monitor funding guidelines, tax credits, policy developments, and market issues that affect members' business affairs needs, and translate developments into timely guidance for members and staff.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with funders, industry associations, and other stakeholders on business affairs-related matters of interest to CMPA members and the broader industry.
Research, Analysis and Member Communications
- Undertake research and analysis in support of business affairs files, member advisory work, stakeholder engagement, and departmental initiatives.
- Support CMPA communications, including website resources and Notes to Members by preparing clear, accurate, and member-focused content as required.
Committee, Working Group and Administrative Support
- Assist the Vice-President, Industry and Business Affairs with committee and working group business, including research, agenda drafting, meeting preparation, materials coordination, minutes, note-taking, and follow-up documentation.
- Maintain strong document management practices for files, committees, background materials, and departmental records, and provide administrative, research, and file support as requested.
- Perform other duties, generally consistent with the job description, as may from time to time be required and assigned by the Vice-President, Industry and Business Affairs or Chief Operating Officer.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Industry-related post-secondary diploma or certificate from a recognized Canadian institution, or a Bachelor of Arts degree from a recognized Canadian university.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a business affairs-related position at a production company Canadian production financier, such as a funder, broadcaster, or distributor.
- Experience in physical production (live-action or animation) is considered an asset.
SKILLS & CAPABILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of development, production, project financing, business operations and planning for independent production companies.
- Knowledge of the Canada Media Fund, Telefilm, federal and provincial tax credits, and Certified Independent Production Funds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties.
- Able to adapt to changes in priorities, process, systems, and organizational structures.
- High standards of ethics and confidentiality.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- English (written and spoken) essential.
- French (written and spoken) considered an asset.
- Willing and able to travel, as required.
- Strong proficiency with MS365 such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.

POSITION/LOCATION: Full-time position based in Toronto, ON. Currently hybrid work schedule.
