Job Title: Senior Accounting AnalystJob Description

The Senior Accounting Analyst plays a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and insurance-related analysis within a property and casualty insurance environment. This position focuses on preparing and analyzing IFRS-based financial results, supporting reinsurance reporting, collaborating with actuarial and finance teams, and driving process improvements and control enhancements. The role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong technical skills, insurance industry experience, and a passion for analytical work and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly financial results and reporting packages in accordance with IFRS, including IFRS 17 and IFRS 18 requirements.
  • Identify and explain variances across key balance sheet and income statement accounts to provide clear insights into financial performance.
  • Prepare month-end and quarter-end general journal entries for material financial transactions, including premiums, claims, reinsurance, expenses, and investments.
  • Track and bill reinsurance recoverables and settlements, and manage cash settlements and statements of accounts with reinsurers.
  • Prepare reinsurance schedules and regulatory reports related to ceded business, ensuring accurate application of reinsurance treaty contract terms, premium calculations, and commission structures.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual P&C1 Property and Casualty Insurance Core Financial Statement returns.
  • Prepare and analyze the P&C4 Minimum Capital Test return to support regulatory compliance and capital adequacy assessments.
  • Analyze financial statements and ledger accounts, propose solutions to identified issues, and take ownership of implementing and resolving these solutions.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Assist with ad-hoc analytical reviews required to close quarterly technical results, providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to review budget performance and explain expense trends, supporting effective financial management.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process, including preparation of budgets, monthly forecasting, and expense budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and executive-ready commentary on financial results, variances, and financial outlook.
  • Collaborate with the actuarial team to understand claims development, reserves, loss ratios, and other key insurance performance metrics.
  • Analyze insurance contract liabilities and related movements under IFRS 17, ensuring accurate recognition and measurement.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end audit files, schedules, and working papers, and liaise with auditors to facilitate completion of the annual audit.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting efficiency through automation and standardization.
  • Utilize accounting systems such as Business Central and advanced Excel functions, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables, to support reporting and analysis activities.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) completed or in active pursuit and close to completion; equivalent designations such as ACCA or CA are also relevant.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of International Accounting Standards for insurance organizations, specifically IFRS 17 and IFRS 18.
  • Experience in financial reporting, including preparation of IFRS-based financial statements and regulatory returns.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in a finance or accounting role.
  • Insurance industry experience, preferably within property and casualty (P&C) insurance.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, particularly Business Central and related ERP platforms.
  • Strong Excel skills, including use of VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and other advanced functions for data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements, including P&C1 and P&C4 returns and minimum capital test reporting.
  • Experience supporting audits, including preparation of working papers, schedules, and audit documentation.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls, financial processes, and opportunities for automation and standardization.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics platforms such as D365 and related financial modules.
  • Familiarity with income statement analysis and balance sheet review in an insurance context.
  • Exposure to reinsurance accounting, including tracking recoverables, settlements, and ceded business reporting.
  • Ability to provide executive-ready commentary and presentations on financial results and outlook.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues in financial data and propose effective solutions.
  • Comfort working in a small, collaborative finance team and interacting with actuarial and other business stakeholders.
  • Interest in process improvement, automation, and enhancing reporting efficiency and control environments.
Work Environment

This role operates within a small, collaborative finance team of approximately 7–8 people, offering opportunities for close partnership with actuarial and other departments. The position follows standard business hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility available. The work model is hybrid, with two days per week in the office and the remaining days working remotely. The environment uses modern financial systems, including Business Central and Microsoft Dynamics (such as D365), and relies heavily on Excel for reporting and analysis. The organization offers a defined benefit pension plan and fully covered health and dental benefits. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
