Salary Range: $70,000 to $100,000 We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a growing and established emergency vehicle manufacturing company in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys being involved in both vehicle design and manufacturing, while playing an important role in quality, compliance, and safety. You'll work closely with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams throughout the design and build process, helping identify potential issues early, maintain high-quality standards, and ensure vehicles meet applicable industry and safety requirements. The position offers a 50/50 balance between hands-on work on the shop floor and engineering, documentation, and compliance activities. Key Responsibilities
  • Get hands-on with vehicle design and builds, working across everything from electrical systems to structural components.
  • Inspect wiring, terminations, welding, structural components, and body assemblies to help maintain consistent quality.
  • Review welding and electrical work alongside manufacturing teams and identify potential issues before they become costly rework.
  • Work closely with design and manufacturing teams during the early stages of projects to identify potential design, manufacturing, and compliance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, records, and inspection reports.
  • Support internal quality and compliance reviews as well as occasional visits from external inspectors.
  • Help ensure vehicle designs and manufacturing processes remain aligned with applicable industry standards and best practices.
  • Support regulatory compliance relating to transportation requirements, Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, ambulance-specific regulations, welding, and electrical systems.
  • Assist with documentation and preparation as vehicles progress toward final approval.
  • Stay current with relevant engineering standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Support project coordination and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related technical role.
  • P.Eng. designation is preferred, although EIT candidates working toward their P.Eng. are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with welding or wiring inspection is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Comfortable working both on the shop floor and in an office/documentation environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering documentation, and specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with project management or project coordination is an asset.
  • Comfortable using CAD software, Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and other computer-based tools.
  • Experience with Autodesk CAD products is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Independent and proactive in their approach.
  • Highly detail-oriented and committed to quality.
  • Comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and engaging with both engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • A strong problem solver who enjoys finding practical solutions.
  • Motivated to learn and develop their engineering career.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
This is an opportunity to join a well-established Canadian manufacturer experiencing significant growth. The company has expanded its workforce substantially over the past several years and continues to grow its presence across Canada. With major contracts in place and exciting opportunities on the horizon, this is a great time to join the team. Employees enjoy a long-term, stable working environment, with many team members having been with the organization for decades. Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary based on experience and engineering designation.
