Shuttle Bus Driver – Site Wide Services Construction Project

Job Location: Highland Valley Copper Mine Site, near Logan Lake, BC

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: The shift rotation is currently under development and will be aligned with Highland Valley Copper's operational requirements. Candidates should be available for full‑time work and comfortable with a rotational schedule once finalized.

Reports To: Site Services Foreman

About the Role:

We are seeking reliable, safety‑focused Shuttle Bus Drivers to support transportation needs for the Site Wide Services team at Highland Valley Copper. This multi‑year construction project is expected to run through the end of 2027.

In the current phase, drivers will primarily operate on‑site shuttles, transporting workers safely around the Highland Valley Copper mine site. As project needs evolve, there is potential for this role to also support highway transportation between Kamloops, Merritt, and Highland Valley Copper. Candidates must be comfortable with both mine‑site driving and highway driving in variable weather and demonstrate flexibility as transportation requirements change.

Ideal candidates will have professional passenger‑transport experience and a strong awareness of mine‑site traffic protocols, industrial safety expectations, and changing road and weather conditions common in the region. Success in this role requires a commitment to safety, professionalism, and clear communication while adapting to evolving schedules, routes, and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate on‑site shuttle buses to transport workers around the Highland Valley Copper mine site.
  • Demonstrated experience in professional people transportation, including safe passenger loading/unloading, route awareness, and maintaining a calm, customer‑focused environment.
  • Provide professional, courteous communication with passengers and site personnel.
  • Possess basic mechanical aptitude for identifying minor vehicle issues.
  • Confident operating a shuttle within an active mine environment, including navigating haul roads, controlled intersections, heavy‑equipment zones, and variable site conditions.
  • Maintain situational awareness around heavy equipment, haul trucks, service vehicles, and changing mine‑site conditions.
  • Adhere to all mine‑site traffic rules, speed limits, signage, and safety protocols while driving on haul roads, access roads, and high‑traffic industrial areas.
  • Conduct daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections and promptly report any defects or maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate passenger counts, logs, and transportation records as required.
  • Keep shuttle interiors clean, organized, and safe for all riders.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as transportation needs evolve, including potential future support for highway shuttle routes between Kamloops/Merritt and HVC.
  • Adapt to changing weather, road conditions, schedules, and operational priorities.
  • Follow all site‑specific safety procedures, transportation regulations, and company policies.
  • Support the overall success of the project through cooperation, initiative, and a willingness to assist where needed.
  • Other responsibilities to support the success of the company's project and exceed client delivery expectations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of commercial driving experience transporting passengers or operating commercial vehicles.
  • Valid Class 4 (unrestricted) Driver's Licence (minimum requirement) or Class 1 Licence.
  • A clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Candidates with Class 1 or Class 4 licences must have proven experience transporting passengers in a professional setting (e.g., shuttle services, charter buses, crew transport, commercial passenger vehicles).
  • Note: This role is not suitable for Class 1 drivers whose experience is limited to long‑haul trucking or freight transport.
  • Strong understanding of industrial or mine-site driving, including awareness of heavy equipment, haul truck right-of-way, and controlled intersections.
  • Experience driving in mountainous terrain, winter conditions, or remote industrial sites.
  • Physically capable of working in changing weather and road conditions for extended periods.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with passengers and site personnel.

Preferred Assets:

  • Previous experience driving shuttles, buses, or commercial passenger vehicles.
  • Experience driving in mountainous terrain, winter conditions, or remote industrial sites is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in mining, forestry, or remote industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with Highland Valley Copper or similar mine‑site environments.
  • WHMIS or other general safety awareness training is an asset for working around industrial hazards, even though drivers do not handle materials directly.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must supply own basic PPE: steel‑toed boots, high‑visibility vest, hardhat, and safety glasses. Infracon will provide specialized PPE as needed.
  • Must be willing to undergo Drug and Alcohol testing as required.
  • Valid safety certifications (e.g., First Aid Level 1, CSTS) are considered an asset.

What We Offer:

  • Hourly Rates: Around $35/hr, with final compensation based on experience, licensing, and suitability for the role.
  • Competitive compensation with overtime opportunities.
  • Health & dental benefits.
  • Stability: Long-term project expected to run through the end of 2027.
  • Growth: Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within a supportive team.
