Site Superintendent Location: Halifax Regional Municipality Salary Range: $100,000 to $135,000 A growing Nova Scotia-based construction management firm specializing in mid-rise and multi-unit residential developments is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to join its team. The company partners with developers from the earliest stages of land acquisition and pre-construction through project completion, delivering high-quality residential communities throughout Halifax. The team believes successful projects are built through strong leadership, collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to quality. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operations of multi-unit residential construction projects in Halifax. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Site Superintendent will be responsible for leading all on-site construction activities while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all daily site operations from excavation through occupancy.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and inspectors.
  • Develop and maintain short-term construction schedules.
  • Ensure work is completed according to drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OH&S legislation.
  • Conduct daily site inspections and quality control reviews.
  • Identify and resolve construction issues before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Coordinate municipal inspections and occupancy requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation including daily reports, site instructions, RFIs, and deficiency logs.
  • Monitor labour productivity and subcontractor performance.
  • Manage material deliveries and site logistics.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings with ownership, consultants, and project management.
  • Assist in project planning, sequencing, and risk management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
  • Mentor assistant superintendents, labourers, and junior staff.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Site Superintendent on commercial or multi-residential construction projects.
  • Experience constructing 4–8 storey wood-frame or concrete multi-unit residential buildings.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of the Nova Scotia Building Code and local municipal inspection requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical drawings.
  • Excellent leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites throughout Halifax.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Gold Seal Certification or working toward designation.
  • COR Safety training.
  • WHMIS and Fall Protection certifications.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience using Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, or similar construction management software.
  • Experience delivering sustainable or energy-efficient residential projects.
