Senior Estimator

A well-established London-based general contractor is looking to add an experienced Estimator to its team.

This is a strong opportunity for someone who has built a solid foundation in ICI general contracting and is ready to take greater ownership of the estimating process - from initial drawings and scope review through pricing, trade coverage, bid submission and handoff to the construction team.

You don't need to be a career-long estimating executive. What matters is that you understand how projects actually get built, can work through the details of a tender, and know how to put together a complete, competitive and realistic number.

The Opportunity

Working closely with the estimating, project management and operations teams, you'll be involved in a variety of institutional, commercial and broader ICI construction projects.

You'll take an active role throughout the preconstruction and tendering process, including:

• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand project scope and identify potential gaps or risks
• Preparing detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs and divisional pricing
• Soliciting and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Completing trade scope reviews and bid levelling to ensure complete and comparable coverage
• Developing preliminary budgets and pricing through various stages of design
• Identifying constructability issues, value-engineering opportunities and alternative approaches
• Working with subcontractors and suppliers to clarify scope, pricing and availability
• Assisting with procurement and subcontractor negotiations
• Supporting tender submissions and ensuring bids are complete, accurate and submitted on time
• Maintaining current knowledge of construction costs, trade conditions and the Southwestern Ontario market
• Collaborating with Project Managers and Superintendents during preconstruction and project handoff
• Helping ensure the assumptions made during estimating translate effectively into construction

What We're Looking For

You'll likely bring approximately 5–10+ years of progressive estimating or preconstruction experience, ideally with an Ontario general contractor.

Just as important as the number of years is the depth of your experience.

You should be comfortable:

• Estimating ICI projects as a general contractor
• Reading and interpreting architectural, structural and M&E drawings and specifications
• Completing quantity takeoffs and detailed project pricing
• Reviewing subcontractor scopes rather than simply collecting numbers
• Recognizing scope gaps, exclusions and potential cost risks
• Speaking confidently with trades, suppliers, consultants and internal project teams
• Understanding construction sequencing and constructability
• Working across multiple divisions and putting together a complete bid
• Managing deadlines in a tender-driven environment

Experience with institutional or educational projects, commercial construction, municipal work or other complex ICI projects would be particularly valuable.

A diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology or a related discipline is an asset, although strong practical estimating experience will be equally important.

The Person

This team is looking for someone who is technically capable but also collaborative.

You're someone who asks questions when something doesn't make sense, digs into the drawings rather than making assumptions and understands that good estimating is about much more than finding the lowest number.

You bring strong communication skills, attention to detail and commercial judgement. You're comfortable challenging a scope, talking through a constructability concern with operations or going back to a trade when a quotation doesn't adequately cover the work.

Most importantly, you understand that the estimate sets the project up for success long before anyone mobilizes to site.

Location

The position is based in London, Ontario, and preference will be given to candidates already located in London or the surrounding Southwestern Ontario market.
