We are currently seeking a full-time pharmacist to join our team!
The pay range for this role is: $51 - $54 per hour
Placement within the range will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The final offer will reflect the successful candidate's background and demonstrated capabilities.
This position is an existing vacancy within the organization.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees production activities to ensure compliance with regulation and corporate requirements
- Directs and prioritizes the production process
- Performs all quality checks for batch production including pre-production checks and final release
- Ensures accurate completion of batch records/documentation
- Supervises all activities related to storing, producing, and delivering of product to ensure that the pharmacy complies with provincial and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
- Directs and prioritizes the production process utilizing professional knowledge to recognize critical customer needs.
- Utilizes the pharmaceutical literature and Global and Local Standard Operating Procedures as the basis for judgment of pharmacy issues relating to the compounding of admixtures.
- Establishes, validates, and maintains quality assurance procedures, and records.
- Observes and assesses the equipment, materials and procedures used in the facility and recommend changes where appropriate.
- Responds to information requests from customers, other health disciplines and FK personnel related to drug information and pharmacy practice.
- Participates in departmental clinical and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensures all in-process verifications are met to drive compliance and high-quality standards.
- Participates in inventory counts, process validations and process improvements in general
- Assists in the development and review of master batch records and SOPs as required
- Adheres to Good Documentation Practices and ensures completion of all required documentation as required by SOPs
- Assesses deviations for impact on compounded product
- Performs AQPIC role for controlled drug substances, ensures compliance with all regulations for controlled substances and ensures accurate inventory/count
- Assists with inventory maintenance and cycle counting
- Observes and assesses the equipment, materials and procedures used in the facility and recommends changes where appropriate
- Develops and maintains proficiency in the relevant computer systems to optimize productivity and efficiency
- Assists in developing continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Participates in the training and mentoring of new employees and students
- Assists in production activities (i.e., compounding of product) when the workload requires
- Assists the managers or supervisors in the performance of their responsibilities and assume additional duties as directed
- Externally there is non-direct interaction primarily with pharmacists or pharmacy technicians in the hospitals which are serviced
- Maintains up-to-date first aid training
- Performs other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must have the ability to work all shifts (i.e., morning and evening shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays).
- Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints.
Physical Effort
- Lengthy periods of standing may occasionally be required
- 10% of the time there is prolonged use of outstretched arms in front of the body while handling IV admixtures
- 10% of the time a repetitive wrist bending motion is used while inspecting
- Some lifting of objects up to 20kg is required
Physical Environment
- The production and office areas are generally comfortable, well-lit, and properly ventilated.
- The environment is fast-paced with short production lead times.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum university undergraduate degree in Pharmacy
- Licensed in the province of Ontario with work experience in pharmacy, hospital, or pharmaceutical industry. Experience in a sterile compounding environment is preferred
- In-depth understanding of aseptic technique using laminar flow hoods
- Microbiology, GMP and USP 797, NAPRA standards for non-hazardous sterile compounding knowledge is an asset
