Position Title: YOUTH RECREATION FACILITATOR
Reports to: Manager, Recreation Services
Job Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Services, the Youth Recreation Facilitator plans, organizes, and delivers a variety of recreational programs and activities for children and youth ages 5+. This position promotes positive youth development through physical activity, creative expression, social engagement, life skills development, and healthy lifestyles. The Youth Recreation Facilitator creates safe, inclusive, and supportive environments that encourage participation, build confidence, and foster meaningful connections among youth while supporting the goals and values of the Haisla Nation.

The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We are about 1962+ people, with approximately 532 living in Haisla (Kitamaat Village). We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Duties & Responsibilities
Youth Recreation Program Delivery:
• Plan, organize, and facilitate recreational, athletic, fitness, sports, arts, cultural, and leisure programs for children and youth ages 5+.
• Lead group and individual activities that support physical literacy, creativity, leadership, teamwork, confidence, and personal growth.
• Demonstrate and instruct age-appropriate athletic, fitness, and sports activities and techniques.
• Encourage participation and create welcoming, inclusive, and positive recreational environments for all youth.
• Adapt programs and activities to accommodate participants with diverse abilities, needs, and interests.
• Support therapeutic recreational or physical activities where applicable.
• Promote healthy lifestyles, wellness, and active living through educational and recreational opportunities.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of youth-focused camps, special events, cultural activities, and community initiatives.
• Incorporate First Nations traditions, values, and cultural teachings into programming where appropriate.

Participant Supervision & Safety
• Supervise program participants and monitor activities to ensure safety, engagement, and positive behaviour.
• Enforce program rules, safety standards, and behaviour expectations consistently and respectfully.
• Maintain a safe environment for participants, volunteers, and staff by following established emergency and safety procedures.
• Provide emergency response and administer first aid when required.
• Identify and report safety concerns, incidents, injuries, and behavioural issues according to policy.

Equipment & Facility Support
• Assemble, set up, take down, and maintain program supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Monitor equipment usage to ensure safe and appropriate operation.
• Conduct routine inspections and perform minor maintenance or repairs of recreation and sports equipment as required.
• Assist in maintaining clean, organized, and safe recreation spaces.

Administrative Duties
• Maintain attendance records, activity logs, incident reports, and program documentation.
• Assist with evaluating programs and providing feedback regarding participant engagement and program outcomes.
• Support the training, mentoring, and supervision of junior staff, youth workers, or volunteers when required.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure the privacy and security of participant information.
• Liaise with internal departments, families, community members, and external partners as required to support program delivery.
• Perform other related duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children and youth in recreation, education, sports, camps, or community-based settings.
• First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Strong planning, organization and time management skills with ability to be self-directed.
• Ability to manage group dynamics and support positive behaviour using respectful and effective approaches.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, school breaks, and special events.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
• Knowledge of First Nations Culture and working in a First Nation's community is an asset.
• Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening).

Salary Range: $22.95/hr - $27.00/hr
