As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Metal/Weld Shop Supervisor to lead our metal fabrication and welding operations.

Position Summary

The Metal/Weld Shop Supervisor is responsible for the daily leadership, coordination, and performance of the Metal Fabrication and Welding departments. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of transformer tanks, components, assemblies, and fabricated structures while meeting production schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Welding Operations

  • Supervise daily fabrication, welding, fitting, grinding, and painting operations
  • Coordinate manpower, materials, and equipment to achieve production schedules and targets
  • Manage and optimize production flow to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Ensure work complies with engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and applicable CWB requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation of welding and fabrication activities

Leadership & Employee Development

  • Lead, coach, train, and provide day-to-day guidance to Metal/Weld Shop employees
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and disciplinary processes when required
  • Establish and maintain a certified welding skills matrix
  • Train employees on proper welding techniques, materials, equipment, and fabrication processes
  • Maintain positive employee relationships and promote a collaborative workplace culture

Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as the primary liaison between the Metal Shop, Engineering, Quality, and other production departments
  • Ensure compliance with company health and safety policies, procedures, and training requirements
  • Lead process optimization, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, workflow, and overall shop performance

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Postsecondary education in Manufacturing, Welding, or a related field preferred
  • 7–10 years of fabrication and welding experience
  • 5–7 years of supervisory or leadership experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of CWB standards and certification requirements considered a strong asset
  • Relevant CWB certifications considered an asset

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of MIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
