Calibration Technician

Under the direction of the Lead, Laboratory Equipment PM/Calibration, the Calibration Technician is responsible for performing routine and non-routine calibration, maintenance, and qualification of Quality Control (QC) laboratory equipment in accordance with GMP, GLP, and internal standards. This role ensures laboratory instruments remain in validated, compliant, and optimal working conditions to support accurate and reliable analytical testing. The Calibration Technician also assists in the commissioning and validation of new laboratory equipment, collaborates with external service providers, and maintains accurate calibration records to support data integrity and operational efficiency.

Duties will include:

Equipment Calibration & Maintenance

• • Perform scheduled and non-scheduled calibration, maintenance, and qualification of QC laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure timely execution of the laboratory equipment maintenance program to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.
  • Perform validation and commissioning of new laboratory instruments as required.

  Technical Support & Training

  • Provide troubleshooting support to QC laboratory analysts on equipment-related issues.
  • Assist in equipment operation training and ensure adherence to proper use and maintenance practices.

  Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance records within the calibration management software (e.g., eMaint).
  • Generate, revise, and maintain calibration, operation, and maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with GMP, GLP, and Data Integrity principles.

  Vendor & Contractor Coordination

  • Liaise with external calibration service providers, vendors, and contractors to coordinate and complete scheduled calibration, maintenance, and qualification activities.
  • Review and file vendor calibration certificates and service documentation to maintain compliance records.
  Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment or related regulated industry.
• Hands-on experience with the service, repair, and calibration of laboratory equipment, including HPLC, GC, UV/Vis, FTIR, NIR, and ICP-MS spectrophotometers.
• Solid understanding of GMP and GLP requirements.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, diploma in Metrology, or equivalent education and experience working with laboratory instrumentation.

Skills:

• Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to understand equipment function and performance.
• Proficiency in using calibration equipment and interpreting calibration data.
• Ability to prepare detailed reports and complete required documentation for routine maintenance and calibration activities.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills to balance multiple priorities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot instrumentation issues.

Physical Demands:

• May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Approximately 60% desk-based and 40% standing or active work.
• Exposure to typical laboratory and manufacturing environments, including equipment noise and occasional contact with chemicals (appropriate PPE provided).
