POSITION SUMMARY
The Rate Quote Follow-Up Specialist is responsible for following up with customers on outstanding rate quotes and helping turn quoting opportunities into business for Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. This role works closely with the Pricing and Sales teams to ensure customers receive timely follow-up, identify potential opportunities, and pass qualified leads to the appropriate Sales representative.
The successful candidate will be comfortable speaking with customers, highly organized, and able to provide consistent follow-up while delivering a high level of customer service.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1–3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow up with customers on outstanding rate quotes in a timely and professional manner.
- Connect with customers to understand the status of quoted business and identify potential opportunities.
- Work closely with Pricing and Sales to support customer needs and help secure quoted business.
- Identify potential sales opportunities and pass qualified leads to the appropriate Sales representative.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date notes on customer conversations, quote status, and follow-up activities.
- Build positive relationships with customers through consistent and professional communication.
- Share relevant customer feedback and information with Sales, Pricing, and other internal departments.
- Provide excellent customer service and represent Van Kam professionally in all interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience in customer service, sales, inside sales, or a similar customer-facing role is required.
- Knowledge of trucking and LTL transportation is required.
- Understanding of freight pricing and rates is considered an asset.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking with customers by phone and email.
- Strong organization and follow-up skills.
- Customer-focused with a professional and positive approach.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Ability to manage multiple outstanding quotes and priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Sales, Pricing, and other internal departments.
- Self-motivated and results oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn internal systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time, office-based position.
- Regular computer and telephone use.
- Frequent interaction with customers and internal departments.
- Fast-paced environment requiring strong organization and consistent follow-up.
