At Italian Centre Shop, we're looking for a Full-Time Pastry Assistant / Baker to join our South Side bakery team. What You'll Be Doing

As a Pastry Assistant, you'll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of bakery production, including:

• Preparing cakes, cookies, pies, danishes, tarts, and other baked goods
• Measuring, mixing, and preparing ingredients according to recipes
• Learning dough handling techniques including rolling, kneading, shaping, and cutting
• Preparing fillings, icings, glazes, ganaches, and other specialty components
• Baking products and monitoring quality throughout the process
• Decorating and finishing pastries and desserts
• Stocking and maintaining attractive bakery displays
• Assisting customers with product recommendations and questions
• Following food safety and sanitation standards
• Helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient bakery environment
• Learning inventory, production, and waste-control practices
• Contributing ideas and creativity to our bakery team

Experience & Education

We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.

Ideal candidates may have:

• Previous bakery or food production experience
• Enrollment in, or completion of, the first year of a Baking Apprenticeship Program
• A High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
• A desire to build a long-term career in the baking or pastry industry

Schedule

• Full-Time Position
• Typical shift: 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Open availability preferred
• Early mornings, weekends, and statutory holidays required

Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on role that requires:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching
• Working around ovens, mixers, flour, and baking ingredients
• Occasional work in coolers and freezers
