Full Time Permanent | 37.5 hours per week

Wage: $27.50 - $29.50 per hour

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Program Manager in the Squamish WorkBC office, the Employment Placement Specialist (Job Developer) supports job ready clients in an active job search by connecting them to available job opportunities within the community. duties also include the following: developing job leads, marketing of WorkBC services to support job seekers in finding employment, marketing employer-related services, engaging in job creation, and participating in labour market training initiatives.

Duties:

  • Conducts orientations, information sessions, and pre-screens and evaluates client eligibility for programs and services. Supports clients to enroll in government-required registration
  • Provides clients with information regarding available resources within the community
  • Provides support, direction, and regular contact to clients utilizing the Resource Centre
  • Ensures clients utilizing the Resource Centre have access to current and updated job search resources and job leads. Supports and follows up with clients in their self-marketing job search
  • Liaises with the program funder, internal staff, and stakeholders to provide and receive information that supports clients' ability to achieve their goals
  • Assists clients to become job-ready by conducting mock interviews and other supportive preparation for job seekers
  • Formally evaluates clients in areas such as technical and interpersonal skill development; provides clients with feedback and prepares progress assessment
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as client case files on ICM, evaluations, attendance records, schedules, waitlists, and job placement results
  • Provides services information regarding WorkBC programing to employers, stakeholders, and clients
  • Assists in running in-house Job Search activities including Job Club and canvases employers for new job postings
  • Facilitates job placement by performing duties such as explaining wage subsidy information and placement terms to clients and employers; prepares wage subsidy applications for approval
  • Follows up with employers and clients to ensure education, work experience, and employment placements and agreements are established and maintained and to monitor the quality of placements. Assists employers and clients by performing duties such as job coaching, providing education and information, and advising on clients' special needs
  • Actively engages with employers and clients through in-person outreach in Sea-to-Sky communities including Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, and Mt. Currie
  • Markets employment and training program(s) to prospective clients and employers and develops related promotional materials
  • Maintains employer loyalty activities and engagement to ensure retention of employer relationships and acquire updates on labour market needs
  • Coordinates and executes yearly WorkBC hiring fairs in Whistler and Squamish
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, to support the Squamish Team and general operations, including covering the resource room, as required

Required Qualifications:

· Strong knowledge and understanding of the local Sea-to-Sky labour market trends and employment placement opportunities available

· Diploma in human services or instruction, or equivalent social services skills and experience

· Two years' recent, related experience in instruction and/or providing job-search assistance desired. Or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience

· Must pass a criminal record background check

· Must have Valid BC driver's license and use of motor vehicle with ability to commute when required throughout the Sea-to-Sky corridor (e.g., Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton)

Skills and Abilities:

· Advanced skills with technology, internet, MS Office and database skills required

· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in person or electronically

· Ability to motivate clients and/or program participants to learn skills and acquire employment

· Ability to meet deadlines, manage a varied client load, and work under pressure

· Knowledge and familiarity with educational methodologies and instructional techniques for adults

· Ability to deliver information/workshops in a variety of methods: face to face, written, and via online video conferencing

· Ability to work in a flexible environment and to work independently

· Demonstrated ability to take initiative and problem solve

· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

· Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and productive relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
