Mission/purpose of the roleOwn the day-to-day HR function at Downtown AutoGroup: recruit great people, onboard every new teammate consistently, support employees and managers, run our health & safety program, and continuously improve how we manage our people.
This is a hands-on role. You'll think strategically about how our people practices should work and you'll be the one
What you'll do- Own recruiting across Downtown AutoGroup, from understanding what managers need through sourcing, interviewing, selection and building pipelines for hard-to-fill roles.
- Own onboarding and day-to-day people operations, including in-person onboarding, employee documentation, changes, departures and keeping our HR systems and processes organized.
- Be the first point of contact for employees and managers on everyday HR matters, including attendance, performance, leaves, accommodations and return-to-work issues.
- Run our workplace health & safety program, including JHSCs, inspections, training, incident follow-up, WSIB and required documentation.
- Work closely with managers to solve people issues practically, knowing what can be handled simply and what needs to be escalated.
- Find and fix weak or inefficient HR processes, whether the problem is recruiting, onboarding, administration, manager practices or something employees keep running into.
- Help build a stronger HR function as we grow, using what you see across the business to identify patterns, recommend improvements and put better systems in place.
- Broad hands-on HR experience, including recruiting, onboarding, employee support and HR administration.
- Proven success running full-cycle recruiting, including direct sourcing for difficult-to-fill roles.
- Experience handling day-to-day employee and manager HR questions with sound judgment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; you're comfortable owning both important projects and administrative follow-through.
- Ability to build or improve HR processes rather than simply operate within existing ones.
- Clear, professional communication; builds trust with frontline staff, managers and executives.
- Comfortable working independently, taking ownership and knowing when to escalate an issue.
- Organized, hands-on operator who can be on-site, move between rooftops and follow through.
- Automotive retail or adjacent field experience such as dealership, retail, hospitality, logistics, construction or skilled trades.
- Experience recruiting technicians or other hard-to-hire skilled roles.
- Experience administering an Ontario workplace health & safety program.
- Experience with JHSCs, WSIB and return-to-work processes.
- Experience working in a multi-location organization.
- Experience building HR processes in a growing or decentralized business.
- CHRP/CHRL designation or progress toward one.
- On-site, full-time at Downtown AutoGroup Autoplex, 77 East Don Roadway (Queen St E & DVP), with visits to nearby Toronto locations as needed.
- Reports to and partners closely with the executive leadership team.
- This is a highly visible role with regular interaction with employees and managers across the organization.
- Base salary: CAD $67,500–$91,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.
