DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Gillship Navigation is a leading NVOCC consolidator in the Canadian market. Founded in 1981 to provide consolidation services for both import and export cargo, we have expanded our global network to offer those services worldwide.

We are looking for the right individual to lead our sales team in Canada and oversee all business development activities in Canada. You will be part of the senior management team contributing to the success of Gillship Navigation in Canada.

The successful candidate will possess a strong sales orientation, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to earn a client's trust while positioning Gillship Navigation as the preferred NVOCC partner in Canada.

This is a hybrid position.

About the Role

Reporting to the Vice-President, the primary function of this position is the management and leadership of the sales and marketing group of Gillship Navigation. This will include the direct management of the business development executives in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be expected to prepare a comprehensive sales and marketing plan and execute that plan, including projections for growth for all services.
  • You will work closely, in coordination with operations and the agency network to improve services and resolve any service failures as they may occur. In conjunction with the Director of Operations, you will develop guidelines for service options and plan operational procedures as required. You will assist the sales department in resolving any service failures both internally and with the Global Network of agents.
  • You will conduct regularly scheduled sales meetings, present market information, and review current client activity as well as reporting on service issues with operations and agents. You will complete a monthly report of sales activity and volume statistics with comparison to previous years and current volumes against projected targets.
  • You will have the support of the Vice-President, the Director of Operations, and inside sales to assist with reports and sales information distributed to clients.
  • You will be expected to maintain high-performance standards within your department that will focus on continuous improvement.
  • You will be expected to attend industry functions. Travel will include regular trips to meet with your salespeople in the regions.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in sales, business development, freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, or NVOCC services
  • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage others.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable with travel throughout Western Canada.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
