Close in it is site prep and civil earthworks: stripping topsoil, cut and fill, trench and backfill, building pads, roads and parking areas, and grading to stakes. Out of town it is lease construction, access roads and reclamation, so some days start early and run long. Crews mobilize from Slave Lake and most days you are home at night. What You'll Do
  • Run excavator on lease construction, access roads, site prep and civil earthworks
  • Strip topsoil, move cut and fill, and build pads, roads and parking areas to grade
  • Dig, slope and backfill trench for underground utilities and pipe
  • Work to grade stakes, laser and GPS machine control
  • Complete daily walkarounds, pre-trip inspections and greasing before the machine moves
  • Spot for ground crews, load trucks, and keep ground disturbance clear of buried facilities
  • Take part in pre-job safety meetings, hazard assessments and toolbox talks
What You Bring
  • Verifiable seat time on excavator in civil, oilfield or forestry construction
  • Ability to read grade stakes and hold elevation without someone standing over you
  • Valid Class 5 licence and reliable transportation to sites around Slave Lake
  • Common site tickets: CSTS or equivalent, Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive and First Aid
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and work outdoors through the season
  • Living in the Slave Lake area and comfortable working around ground crews and buried facilities
Nice to Have
  • Time on dozer, loader or grader as a second seat
  • GPS machine control experience (Trimble or Topcon)
  • Class 1 or Class 3 licence for equipment moves and float work
Why Operators Take This JobThe range is posted at $29.00 to $40.00 and where you land in it comes down to your seat time, not a number talked down after the interview. The work is booked through the season, so you are not running one job for three weeks and then calling around again. Sites are in and around Slave Lake, so you are home most nights and your money is not going to rooms and meals. Overtime is there through the busy season for anyone who wants the hours.
Pay is a gross hourly rate before deductions. What We Offer
  • $29.00 to $40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
  • Overtime available based on operational requirements
  • Life insurance plus AD&D with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health: drugs, hospital, vision, and paramedical including mental health
  • Dental coverage, including orthodontic coverage for children
  • Travel insurance, plus ongoing training and career development support
