Job Details:
The Labourer is integral to the smooth operation of the production facility, responsible for tasks such as material handling, machine operation, shop maintenance, and more. This role requires strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective communication skills are essential for success. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI): MATERIAL HANDLING & MACHINING (Weighting 50%)Material Handling
- Safely operate forklifts and cranes to load and unload materials.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or accidents.
- Assist in inventory management by organizing and tacking materials in the shop
- Operate band saws and other cutting machinery to precisely cut materials according to specifications.
- Perform deburring and finishing operations on machined products to ensure smooth surfaces and proper fitment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment or systems
- Report any major maintenance or repair needs to supervisors for further action
- Participate in preventative maintenance programs to ensure the longevity of equipment and facilities
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the manufacturing shop, including work areas and equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately to the appropriate personnel
- Participate in daily toolbox talks or safety walks in the production facility or yard.
- Assist in quality control inspections by identifying and reporting defects or discrepancies in materials or finished products.
- Follow established procedures and standards to maintain product quality and consistency.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the structural department and mill to achieve production goals and deadlines.
- Communicate any issues or concerns related to materials, equipment, or processes to supervisors or team leaders.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, alcohol, and drug test
- Familiarity with various pipe materials/grade would be considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to assembly/fabrication work.
- Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labor and work in various conditions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Forklift and crane operation certification preferred.
- Basic understanding of machining processes and equipment.
- Able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
