About the Role
As we continue to grow and evolve, with an expanding residential portfolio and an increasing focus on operational excellence, we are strengthening our Legal and Resident Relations capabilities. We are seeking a Team Lead, Paralegal to oversee our resident legal function while providing day-to-day leadership and guidance to our Paralegal team.


This role is responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate, and consistent management of landlord tenant legal matters across our residential portfolio. In addition to managing a portfolio of complex legal files, the Team Lead will provide coaching and guidance to the Paralegal team, establish best practices, monitor workflow and quality, and partner closely with Property Management, Accounting, and Legal to deliver compliant, efficient, and resident-focused outcomes.


The ideal candidate is an experienced licensed Paralegal with strong leadership capabilities, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for building efficient processes and developing people. This individual will represent the organization before the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB), provide subject matter expertise on the Residential Tenancies Act, and help drive continuous improvement across the legal operations function.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a team of Paralegals.
  • Review work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with legislation and internal standards.
  • Monitor workload distribution and prioritize files to ensure service levels are met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, increase efficiency, and standardize
    processes.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex resident legal matters.

Legal Operations

  • Oversee the preparation and filing of Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) applications and
    prescribed legal documentation.
  • Maintain an active caseload, including preparing legal forms, reviewing files, and
    representing the organization at LTB hearings.
  • Review resident ledgers and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and support
    collections efforts.
  • Review, interpret, and implement LTB Orders, mediated agreements, and related legal
    decisions.
  • Research legal issues, gather evidence, and oversee disclosure preparation for hearings.
  • Negotiate payment agreements and settlement arrangements where appropriate.
  • Ensure all legal files are organized, complete, and maintained in accordance with internal
    standards.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner closely with Property Management, Accounting, and In-House Legal Counsel to resolve complex legal matters.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding landlord-tenant legislation and legal processes.
  • Monitor legislative changes affecting residential tenancy law and communicate updates to the team.


Qualifications
Must-Haves

  • Licensed P1 Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 5+ years of paralegal experience, with experience representing landlords before the Landlord and Tenant Board.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and related legislation.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or coaching a team (formal leadership experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.


Assets

  • Experience using Yardi or other property management software.
  • Experience supporting a large multi-residential property portfolio

This is a full-time, in-office role based in our office 5 days per week, providing the opportunity to collaborate closely with colleagues, learn from experienced professionals and contribute within an engaging, high-performing team environment. Occasional travel within Canada is required.
