POSITION SUMMARY:
The HSE Coordinator supports the administration and continuous improvement of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) program. This role is responsible for maintaining HSE management systems, coordinating training programs, developing and updating safety policies and procedures, supporting site safety initiatives, and leading audits and inspections. Additional responsibilities include tracking corrective actions and incident data, reviewing critical safety documentation, and performing other related duties as required.
Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, the HSE Coordinator will collaborate with and receive direction from a variety of stakeholders, including managers, project managers, supervisors, and other Milestone team members, to support the effective implementation of HSE programs and initiatives.
The successful candidate is highly organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health and Safety
Demonstrates a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence by understanding, adhering to, and promoting Milestone's Corporate HSE Program, policies, and procedures. Ensures health, safety, and environmental considerations are incorporated into all work activities and decisions. Actively participates in HSE initiatives, training, and continuous improvement efforts, while contributing to a positive safety culture and supporting the organization's goal of achieving the highest standards of safety performance.
Duties and Expectations
- Prepare and maintain site specific health and safety plans for regional projects
- Lead the development and implementation of the regional safety training program
- Maintain the HSE pre-qualification and subcontractor management programs
- Manage the regional safety incentive program including coaching and tracking
- Participate in incident, injury, and near miss investigations
- Identify root causes and recommended corrective actions and track actions through to completion.
- Develop materials for and conduct new employee health and safety orientations
- Manage the regional Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit process including organizing documents and records, scheduling interviews and site visits, and completing post audit action plans.
- Provide leadership and direction for the regional health and safety committee
- Review and maintain emergency response plans and procedures
- Conduct workplace inspections and verify compliance with company and regulatory requirements
- Provide HSE support to regional managers, general superintendents, and site superintendents
- Periodically evaluating jobsite, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards
- Assist in administrative tasks such as data entry and forms management
- Manage regional workers' compensation claims and the claims management process
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Requirements:
- HSE Certification or HSE Diploma required or must be close to completion
Professional Certifications:
Assets:
- Construction Safety Officer certification.
- COR internal auditor certification.
- NHSA designation or working toward designation.
- NCSO® designation or working toward designation.
- CRSP® candidate status.
- Joint Health & Safety Committee certification.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience in similar industry
- Construction industry exposure / experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and presentation skills
- Excellent computer skills; Office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with Health & Safety software, Salus, Complyworks, SiteDocs, ISN, Avetta
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is usually in an office environment, and field visits are required. A reliable vehicle, clean drivers abstract, and the ability get security clearance is a must.
