TransPlus Software
Kitchener, ON
Job Details:
Here we grow again! As a result of continued growth and our commitment to customer satisfaction, we are adding a Product Manager to our Product & Engineering team. Shipping software is only half the job - the other half is making sure customers, colleagues, and leadership all know what shipped, why it mattered, and what is coming next. You will own the operating rhythm of our Product & Engineering department: the roadmap and the specifications behind it, the customer feedback portal, the backlog, the release calendar, the KPI reporting, and every communication that leaves the department.
We are a small, senior, AI-forward team. AI is not a perk here or a line in a values deck - it is how the work gets done. We expect you to build this function with AI carrying the heavy lifting, so your time goes to judgment, customers, and craft.
What You'll Own
Roadmap, Specifications & Feature Hygiene
- Own roadmap communication and management - keep it current, accurate, and legible, and publish the internal and customer-facing views. Every item carries a theme, a rationale, and an honest timeframe.
- Write the feature specifications - problem statement, workflow context, functional detail, acceptance criteria, edge cases, dependencies, success measures - using AI to accelerate first drafts and pressure-test them for gaps before review. Own the approval gate: nothing enters build without a spec Development, Support, and leadership have agreed on.
- Maintain feature hygiene across roadmap and backlog: every item framed, scoped, categorized, and specified before a developer sees it, with AI auditing the set at scale to flag what has drifted.
- Make the day-to-day roadmap calls - sequencing, sizing, and priority within an agreed theme. Larger features and platform direction are decided with leadership: you bring the evidence that shapes those calls, then own the spec, sequencing, and execution that follow.
Voice of the Customer & Closing the Loop
- Own “close the loop” communication end to end. Every customer who reports a defect or requests an enhancement hears back - when we log it, prioritize it, start it, and most importantly when it ships in a build.
- Manage the customer idea and defect portal - triage, comment responses, upvotes, duplicates, consistent categorization, and a high-quality bar - using AI to cluster hundreds of submissions into themes rather than reading them one at a time.
- Treat our customer ticketing system as a first-class signal source: AI-assisted trending of recurring issues, quantified by frequency and customer impact, turned into properly framed backlog candidates instead of one-off fixes.
- Run a standing cadence of internal signal-gathering sessions with Sales, Support, Onboarding, and Implementation. These teams hear what customers never write down - get it into the backlog, and back to them once we act on it.
- Run our twice-yearly product surveys end to end, including the “here is what you told us and here is what we did” response that grows response rates - with AI analyzing open-text responses at scale.
- Conduct customer site visits and virtual sessions to observe real workflows firsthand, using AI to synthesize your notes and transcripts into themes.
- Publish a recurring voice-of-customer readout merging every channel - tickets, portal, surveys, site visits, internal teams - that names and sizes the top themes and feeds the roadmap. Be the person who answers, “what are customers struggling with right now?” with evidence, not anecdote.
Communications, Handoff & Enablement
- Author and publish the department's flagship product & engineering update on a predictable cadence - currently every two months, moving to monthly - covering what we finished, what we are building now, what is next, and why. Alongside the roadmap, this is the most visible artifact of the role.
- Own the release email when a build ships: every enhancement and fix with a clear title, plain-language description, why it matters, and who it impacts - AI-drafted from the release data, then edited to a standard you will sign.
- Partner with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success on customer-facing release communications, release notes, in-app “what's new” content, and product posts to our website and social channels.
- Craft the handoff documentation and run the handoff demonstrations, making sure Support, Sales, and Customer Success are enabled before customers ever see the change. Run iterative feedback sessions during design and build so we course-correct before release, not after.
Backlog, Reporting & Release Management
- Be the accountable owner of backlog quality - naming standards, themes, categories, priorities, states, statuses, descriptions, rationale - and of the taxonomy that keeps the whole thing reportable and trustworthy as it grows.
- Produce the department KPI report every week in three tiers - operational metrics for the department, a summary for the Key Leadership Team, and a company-wide view. Own the definitions behind the numbers and automate assembly with AI so your time goes to the narrative, not the process.
- Own the release calendar and the product-side checklist for every ship - contents verified, notes written, comms queued, portal items updated, stakeholders notified - then track post-release adoption and quality.
- Partner with Support and Development on defect triage and severity classification, and coordinate beta and early-access programs including pilot customer recruitment.
What You Bring
- A business or technical degree and 3–5 years in product management, product operations, business analysis, or technical program management at a software company.
- Exceptional written communication. This role writes for customers, for the whole company, and for leadership. It is a core skill of the job, not a soft one.
- Demonstrated AI fluency in real work - what you have automated, accelerated, or made possible with it. Be ready to walk us through your actual workflow, not a course you took.
- Feature specifications precise enough that engineers build from them using AI agents and coding tools - where a vague spec becomes the wrong feature quickly - plus experience owning and communicating a roadmap to audiences who each want a different level of detail.
- A track record of turning messy multi-source signal - tickets, portals, surveys, internal teams - into a defensible, prioritized view of what to build.
- Ownership of a recurring operating cadence - something you published on a schedule and were accountable for week after week - plus hands-on product tooling experience (Aha!, Jira, Azure DevOps) and comfort building reports from that data.
- Prioritization judgment with incomplete information, and the instinct to know which calls are yours and which go up.
- Solid grasp of the SDLC, Agile practices, and release management - able to talk credibly with developers, plainly with customers, and to run a customer session where the feedback is hard to hear.
- Nice to have: transportation, logistics, or TMS/ERP experience; running a feedback portal, advisory board, or user group; building a product operations function from scratch.
