Journeyperson Carpenter

Term of Employment:Full-time, ContinuingRate of Pay:Band 6: $39.86 - $43.53 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)Location:Operations CentreDuties:Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, the Journeyperson Carpenter will work as part of the Building Services department in day-to-day operations and maintenance of buildings. This position will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of function and safety for all City of Lloydminster owned facilities and work in conjunction with Building Maintenance Technicians and Municipal Worker 2's to mentor and foster growth within the department. This role will be required to respond in emergency situations in an efficient and professional manner and perform routine and preventative maintenance to buildings and facilities.
Duties
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance to buildings and facilities. Including but not limited to carpentry.
- Building renovation work including framing, boarding, mudding, taping, sanding and painting, door installation, trim work, cabinet work, railings and installation of windows.
- Construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
- Inspecting exterior building envelopes and roofs for possible signs of failure and rectify as soon as possible or report to Supervisor.
- Repair, inspect and adjust door locks, closers and panic hardware associated with doors.
- Weekly and yearly maintenance of all departmental equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
- Carrying out duties that require the use of scissor lift, boom lift, ladder and scaffolding.
- Documenting and keeping legible records and maintaining proper logs.
- General building checks and safety checks both internal and external.
- Maintaining of exterior and interior of buildings.
- Ensure that materials are stored in a safe and orderly manner.
- Maintaining, cleaning and organizing all job-related tools.
- Assisting and organizing other staff and contractors when required.
- Ensuring that contractual work is completed to all standards and regulations required.
- Reporting all issues and concerns with equipment, safety, facilities, vandalism, and procedures.
- Assist customers and tenants in all matters related to Carpentry.
- Providing assistance and recommendations to management on future projects.
- Utilizing experience and education to help co-workers and others in their development.
- Other related duties as required.
This position requires employee to be in a number of different facilities. The employee must be capable of working alone or with a number of team members. This position requires shift work. On call shifts may be required. The employee will be expected to work in inclement weather conditions.Qualifications:
- Completion of Carpenter Trade Certification with Red Seal from a recognized institution.
- Recent 5 yrs commercial building experience.
- Previous building maintenance experience is preferred.
- Strong communication skills are required.
- Basic computer skills such as; smart phones, internet, email, word, online forms, and electronic time sheet are required.
- Strong customer service and ability to deal with the public and building tenants courteously and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills is required.
- Must have the ability to work responsibly alone under minimal supervision and work well within a team of employees.
- Must be in good physical condition and be able to stand for long period of time with bending and reaching motions. The position does include some lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must be capable of operating Tables saws, planers, band saws, Routers, mitre saws and small maintenance equipment and hand tools in an efficient, responsible manner in accordance with recognized procedures.
- A valid Class 5 Drivers License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver's Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance is required.
