The RoleThe Junior Project Manager is responsible for managing small to medium mechanical construction projects while continuing to perform key coordination and documentation activities. This role supports project planning, scheduling, financial tracking, and client communication under the guidance of senior team members. The Junior Project Manager reports to the Director of Projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Review purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and bid documents to confirm project scope and requirements.
- Develop initial project schedules outlining work activities, sequencing, manpower, and material requirements.
- Attend construction and coordination meetings to support alignment with design intent and project scope.
- Coordinate project documentation including RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and submittals.
- Communicate project updates, schedule changes, and requirements to internal teams, suppliers, and sub-trades.
- Manage day-to-day client communication on assigned projects and escalate issues as required.
- Identify and document project risks and support mitigation planning.
- Coordinate with Operations and Foremen to plan labour requirements and work sequencing.
- Track labour hours, material costs, and support cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Support quality control and safety compliance on assigned projects.
- Lead project close-out activities including documentation, deficiencies, and turnover requirements.
What You Bring to the Table
- 2–6 years of experience in mechanical construction, project coordination, or a related field.
- Experience supporting or managing small construction projects is preferred.
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Science.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems and construction practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with project management software.
- Ability to track costs, quantities, and basic project schedules.
