The Opportunity – Intermediate Municipal Engineer

Hazen Canada is seeking a motivated Intermediate Municipal Engineer to join our Calgary, Alberta office. This role will support a wide range of municipal drinking water and wastewater projects, from early planning and feasibility through detailed design, construction, and operational support. The successful candidate will work directly with municipal clients, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mento junior staff, and contribute to business development efforts across Alberta and Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support municipal drinking water and wastewater projects through all phases of delivery, including planning, studies, design, construction, and commissioning
  • Participate in treatment process selection, development of design criteria, and preparation of engineering deliverables
  • Participate in development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality to meet client expectations
  • Coordinate directly with municipal clients, regulators, and project stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal technical specialists and multidisciplinary design teams
  • Support proposal development and business development initiatives
  • Mentor and support the development of more junior engineering staff

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Master's degree an asset
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Alberta or eligible for registration
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • 5+ years of experience delivering municipal drinking water and/or wastewater projects; experience working with Alberta municipal clients and regulatory agencies preferred
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex, multi‑disciplinary engineering projects
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
  • Proficiency with MS Office and standard engineering software
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and client‑focused
