About the OpportunityOur client is a well-established Canadian organization with a diverse portfolio of operating companies. They are seeking a technically strong General Accountant to join their growing finance team.
This position is ideal for an intermediate accountant who enjoys hands-on accounting, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has a passion for improving processes through technology. You'll work closely with the Controller and collaborate with a large finance team while supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance activities, and continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle accounting, including month-end activities and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate financial reports and support monthly and year-end close processes.
• Assist with indirect tax reporting and compliance requirements.
• Maintain and reconcile tax-related accounts and supporting documentation.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests.
• Develop, maintain, and improve complex financial spreadsheets and reporting tools.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvements.
• Partner with internal departments to improve financial controls and reporting processes.
• Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure documentation and accounting procedures remain accurate and up to date.

What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
• Experience working within a mid-sized or large organization.
  Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles.
  Experience working in a complex accounting environment.
  Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  
  • Pivot Tables
  • VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Complex formulas
  • Large data set manipulation
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated accountability, ownership, and a proactive work ethic.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn new systems and business processes.

Nice to Have

• Progress toward or completion of a CPA designation.
• Experience supporting audit activities.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools.
• SQL knowledge.
• Experience with ERP or financial reporting systems.
• Exposure to fuel-industry tax standards or regulatory reporting.

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive salary ($60,000–$75,000)
