Job Purpose
The Field Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Hydro Tech's Quality Management System (QMS). This role supports hydro-electric projects, including generator and turbine overhauls and intake/spill gate work, by ensuring inspections, testing, documentation, and quality controls meet internal standards, client requirements, and applicable regulatory and certification standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Field Quality Assurance Technician will:
- Supervise trades people during routine inspections, maintenance & testing of equipment
- Facilitate any tests, measurements or inspections required to support the QA/QC program
- Operating FARO Laser Tracker and associated software to perform dimensional inspections
- Analyze data and create detailed and informative reports
- Preparing and revising QA/QC documents, procedures, and work instructions
- Maintaining QA/QC records to internal and client standards
- Disposition and control of nonconformance reports and corrective action plans
- Acting as a liaison with external parties on matters relating to the quality management system
- Analyze customer requirements during the bid process for QA/QC requirements
- Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Experience: 3 or more years of operating FARO Laser tracker and associated software
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology/Technician
- Prior Inspection or Machining experience is an asset
- Red Seal Trade designation is an asset
- Knowledge of Hydroelectric Turbines and/or Generators
- Knowledge of common inspection tools (Vernier, micrometer, etc)
- Knowledge of automated measurement methods (3D Cameras, high-precision laser equipment)
- Basic knowledge of ISO 9001, CWB, ASME or other standards - an asset
- Good knowledge of reading mechanical plans
- Good knowledge and use of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Must have Class G driver's license.
- Excellent communication and computer skills
- Physically demanding work, must be able to be on your feet all day, climb ladders/scaffolding, etc.
- Must be willing and able to travel internationally.
Experience and Technical Skills:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating FARO Laser Tracker and associated software
- Prior inspection, machining, or dimensional measurement experience is considered an asset
- Knowledge of hydro-electric turbines and/or generators is an asset
- Proficiency with common inspection tools (e.g., vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Experience with automated and advanced measurement methods (e.g., 3D cameras, high-precision laser equipment)
- Basic working knowledge of ISO , CWB, ASME, or similar quality standards (asset)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
Working Conditions
- Overtime may be required.
- Frequent travel is required.
