Position Summary

KCR is seeking a passionate and adaptable LINC Instructor to deliver English language instruction to adult newcomers in a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The LINC Instructor will plan and facilitate lessons aligned with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) guidelines. The successful candidate will support learners in developing practical language skills, building confidence, and progressing toward their settlement, employment, and community goals.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction and Lesson Planning

  • Deliver English language instruction to adult newcomers in accordance with CLB principles, PBLA guidelines, and LINC curriculum requirements.
  • Develop module plans and lesson plans that reflect learner needs, language levels, and settlement goals.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment that respects and values cultural diversity.
  • Provide learners with appropriate classroom and program orientations, including information about safe practices.
  • Adapt instructional approaches and materials to support different learning styles and abilities.

Assessment and Learner Progress

  • Develop assessment tasks to evaluate learner progress in accordance with CLB and PBLA guidelines.
  • Accurately benchmark learner progress and maintain up-to-date learner portfolios.
  • Provide clear, timely, and constructive feedback to support continued learning and development.
  • Identify learners who may require additional support and collaborate with appropriate staff when needed.

Administration and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate attendance records, lesson plans, assessment records, and other required program documentation.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly reports to support program monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure all records and documentation are completed accurately and within required timelines.

Technology and Blended Learning

  • Use online teaching platforms, including Avenue.ca, to support blended and digital learning.
  • Incorporate multimedia, digital resources, and interactive tools to enhance instruction and learner engagement.
  • Support learners in developing the digital literacy skills required to participate successfully in online and blended learning environments.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with instructors, program staff, and community partners to share resources, strategies, and best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and required training.
  • Complete or maintain relevant training, including LearnIT2teach, as required.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with a TESL Certification from a training institute accredited by TESL Canada.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching ESL to adult newcomers; ELSA or LINC experience preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral English language communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA principles with the ability to benchmark student progress.
  • Online teaching experience is an asset.
  • Experience teaching Literacy is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Avenue.ca and LearnIT2teach training and experience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a group environment.
  • Ability to work in a blended learning environment.
