About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior IMIT Subject Matter Expert Located in Western Canada to provide technical leadership in the planning, design, and coordination of Intelligent Management and Information Technology (IMIT), low-voltage, and integrated building systems across complex projects. You will serve as the technical lead for IMIT and low-voltage systems, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, architects, contractors, and technology partners. This role will support projects across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and will play a key role in expanding AES Technology's IMIT capabilities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the planning, design, and coordination of IMIT, telecommunications, network infrastructure, and integrated low-voltage systems for healthcare, commercial, institutional, correctional, and other complex building projects.
- Develop project-specific IMIT strategies, basis of design reports, technical specifications, system narratives, equipment schedules, drawings, riser diagrams, network diagrams, and tender documentation.
- Design and coordinate telecommunications rooms, equipment rooms, network cabinets, structured cabling systems, fibre optic infrastructure, pathways, conduits, cable trays, grounding, bonding, and associated network infrastructure.
- Lead the integration of intelligent building systems, including building automation systems (BAS/BMS), access control, CCTV, intercom, nurse call, fire alarm interfaces, lighting controls, audiovisual systems, digital signage, wireless networks, RTLS, asset tracking, and other connected technologies.
- Develop integration strategies and coordinate communication protocols, interface requirements, system ownership, cybersecurity considerations, network architecture, and interoperability between multiple technology platforms.
- Collaborate with architects, electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil consultants, client IT departments, contractors, vendors, facility operators, and other project stakeholders to deliver fully coordinated technology solutions.
- Coordinate infrastructure requirements including equipment space, power distribution, emergency power, UPS systems, cooling requirements, redundancy, grounding, environmental considerations, and network resiliency.
- Review shop drawings, equipment submittals, contractor documentation, testing reports, commissioning documentation, and project close-out records to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in site reviews, construction administration, integrated systems testing, commissioning activities, and project turnover.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality assurance to engineers, designers, and technologists, while promoting consistency and technical excellence across projects.
- Identify design risks, coordination challenges, scope gaps, and opportunities for improved project delivery, supporting project managers in resolving technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with proposal development, fee estimates, project planning, client presentations, and business development activities, representing AES Technology as a trusted technical advisor.
Our Must Haves:
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in IMIT, telecommunications, low-voltage systems, or integrated building systems.
- Previous experience working within a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, network infrastructure, intelligent building systems, and systems integration.
- Experience preparing technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to travel throughout Western Canada as required.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- BICSI RCDD certification or equivalent experience.
- Eng., CET, CTS, PMP, CCNA, CISSP, or other relevant professional designation.
- Experience delivering healthcare, institutional, commercial, government, or mission-critical projects.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, and related design software.
- Familiarity with BICSI, TIA, CSA, and applicable Canadian codes and standards.
Compensation
$95,000 - $110,000 (depending on experience)
