Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Propulsion Systems Controls Engineer to support the development of advanced control systems for conventional, hybrid, and electrified propulsion technologies. This role is responsible for developing control strategies and algorithms, performing system analysis, conducting testing and validation activities, and generating requirements for downstream software implementation teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong systems engineering skills, hands-on testing experience, and expertise in control system development methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop propulsion control strategies and algorithms for internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicle applications.
  • Design and model control logic using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
  • Perform system-level analysis to evaluate control system performance and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze test data and translate findings into actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies of competitive technologies and emerging industry trends.
  • Develop functional requirements and system specifications for software implementation teams.
  • Support control system development throughout the product lifecycle, from concept generation through production readiness.
  • Perform and support vehicle testing, dynamometer testing, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, prototype evaluations, and validation activities.
  • Validate control strategies through simulation, laboratory testing, and vehicle-level assessments.
  • Investigate control system issues using structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex system-level issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Evaluate interactions between propulsion controls and other vehicle systems.
  • Generate technical reports, design documentation, validation results, and engineering recommendations.
  • Support calibration activities and verification of control system performance.
  • Participate in technology feasibility studies, concept development, and advanced engineering investigations.
  • Coordinate technical activities and drive projects to successful completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in propulsion system controls development, calibration, validation, or related engineering activities.
  • Experience developing control algorithms and control system strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory, systems engineering principles, and model-based development.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
  • Experience analyzing engineering data and translating findings into technical recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with internal combustion engine, transmission, hybrid, electric vehicle, or battery system controls.
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle testing, dynamometer testing, HIL systems, or test bench validation.
  • Knowledge of propulsion system calibration methodologies.
  • Experience with requirements development and systems engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with controls verification and validation activities.
  • Understanding of vehicle system interactions and integrated propulsion systems.
