Position Summary
The Kitchen Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Seneca Student Federation (SSF) Food Services operation at King Campus. This position provides leadership and supervision to Kitchen Service Staff, ensuring the efficient delivery of food services while maintaining exceptional standards of food quality, customer service, cleanliness, food safety, and workplace health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Food Production & Kitchen Operations
• Supervise the daily operation of the SSF kitchen and food service area.
• Coordinate daily food production and ensure menu items are prepared consistently according to recipes, processes and quality standards.
• Oversee food preparation, portion control, presentation, and packaging.
• Ensure food stations remain fully stocked throughout service periods.
• Monitor food quality, freshness, and product consistency.
• Ensure all food is properly labelled, dated, and stored according to Public Health standards.
• Assist with menu items, pricing, and product offerings as required, while considering operational requirements, customer feedback, food costs, and market trends.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
• Supervise, coach, and support Kitchen Service Staff and other student employees.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and training of new staff.
• Prepare staff schedules and manage shift coverage.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, and workplace performance.
• Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback.
• Ensure staff comply with SSF policies, food safety standards, and operational procedures.
Customer Service Excellence
• Ensure exceptional customer service is consistently provided.
• Address customer concerns professionally and resolve issues promptly.
• Support front-of-house operations during busy periods.
Inventory Management & Purchasing
• Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock quantities.
• Receive deliveries and verify products against purchase orders and invoices.
• Ensure proper storage of all food and supplies.
• Maintain organized storage areas and inventory records.
Financial Controls
• Oversee daily opening and closing procedures.
• Monitor sales handling procedures and POS operations.
• Verify daily sales reports and reconcile transactions.
• Investigate discrepancies and report concerns to the Campus Manager.
• Ensure compliance with SSF financial procedures and timely submission of required financial reports.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation
• Ensure the kitchen, food preparation areas, storage rooms, and service counters remain clean and sanitary.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly turned on at the beginning of each shift and safely shut down at the end of each shift in accordance with operational and safety procedures.
• Maintain waste tracking records, monitor food waste levels, and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
• Monitor cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained properly.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance and report equipment repairs.
• Ensure waste disposal and recycling procedures are followed.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all applicable requirements, including Public Health regulations, the Ontario Food Premises Regulation, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS requirements, SSF policies and procedures, and any other relevant legislative, regulatory, or organizational standards.
• Ensure all staff follow proper food handling and sanitation practices.
• Monitor temperatures for refrigeration, freezers, and hot holding equipment.
• Promote safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications
• Diploma or Certificate in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in food service, restaurant, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen operations.
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience.
• Food Handler Certification (required or willingness to obtain).
• WHMIS Certification (required or willingness to obtain).
• First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada.

• Knowledge of inventory management and food cost control.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability to train, mentor, and motivate staff.
Working Conditions
• Full-time one-year contract (35–40 hours per week).
• Evening, weekend, and special event work may be required.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 kg (55 lbs.).
• Work in varying temperatures, including refrigerators, freezers, and commercial kitchen environments.
• Exposure to commercial kitchen equipment, hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and cleaning chemicals while following established safety procedures.
