Division Manager – Building StructuresPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and results-driven Division Manager – Building Structures to lead a structural engineering team within a consulting environment. This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing the division's business strategy while overseeing operations, financial performance, project delivery, staff development, and client relationships.The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, foster a collaborative team environment, and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality structural engineering services. This position reports to a senior leadership role.Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor divisional business plans, budgets, and operational objectives.
  • Oversee financial performance, including revenue, profitability, work-in-progress (WIP), invoicing, accounts receivable, and budget management.
  • Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects across institutional, commercial, industrial, and multi-residential sectors, ensuring quality, consistency, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to support engineering excellence and adherence to industry standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members through regular performance reviews, career development planning, and ongoing feedback.
  • Manage staffing requirements, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, promotions, training, succession planning, and compensation recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for new and repeat business.
  • Support proposal preparation, client presentations, and business development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with technical leaders and other operational managers to promote consistency in engineering practices, project management, and service delivery.
  • Monitor team utilization and resource allocation to maximize productivity and project performance.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in the applicable jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop technical teams.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, operational planning, and performance management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of structural building design, applicable building codes, permitting processes, and relevant engineering standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and accountability, including the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and multidisciplinary project teams.
